HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Here's the thing.

Most fans want Day fired because of the narratives and the results. And those speak for themselves.

But I want him fired for more than that. I want him fired because he consistently shrinks in the biggest moments of the biggest games.

I just watched the replay. Forget everything before that for a second. We had a 4th and 1 from our own 20 yard line with 7 minutes left. Conventional, old school thought says to punt that ball.

But I wanted to go for it. Why? Because I knew, in the worst case scenario, we don't get the first down and Michigan scores...BUT, we have a shitload of time left. The time wouldn't even be a concern at this point. It's solely on us and our execution.

But what happens? Day punts, Michigan milks clock and and we get the ball back down 3 with 40 seconds left.

Go look at my posts after the Oregon game. This keeps happening at the end of all of these big games.

This isn't a pattern or a trend anymore. This is reality. Ryan Day does not understand clock management and end of game situations and that alone is why Ohio State should move on from him. I would add a caveat but there is no need, he is never winning a National Championship because of how he handles these late game situations.

I'm interested in beating TCUN, winning the B1G, everything else is gravy.

At this point I don't even care who else they bring in. Blow it the fuck up for all I care. Start over. This isn't working. Day isn't the guy(tm). Maybe the next guy might not be either, but it can't be Day. He clearly doesn't have it mentally for this level of the sport.

Tressel was an unknown when he was hired. Day was an unknown when he was hired as well. Maybe the next guy isn't a top tier guy right now. IDK. But doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result has a certain definition.

As far as a NC goes, I really don't know how I would feel about that if Ohio State won it this year. I would still want them to win any game they're in, of course, but there would be some apathy. I watched the Georgia game a few years ago with some apathy. Still was impressed with their play and wanted them to win, but it certainly wasn't the same. The Game matters.
The Game Used to matter. Technically it doesn’t anymore. If you can win a natty without beating scum , it doesn’t matter. Inside in our souls it matters but in this new age - I’ll take a natty and a loss over no natty and a win. My old school brain had to readjust and that’s just how I see it in 2024 and moving forward. And it’s gross. Yea.

Day is stuck on forming his own “look I can coach tough football” narrative which is exactly why he will never win a title.

The “they can still win the national title” people crack me up. This coach is not putting together 4 Ws in a row against higher level teams.
Yep, because I watched Ga v Ga Tech, ol piss, and alabama, Bama against vandy, Notre Dame against NIU, Miami against whoever they lost to, Texas against Alabama. It’s been a year of shit shows by teams who normally don’t have shit shows.
Howard was off all day which may be the reason Day kept trying to run.

This will bug me like the 1969 game when Woody insisted on playing Kern despite Kern having back spasms all week.

Georgia pulled through and beat Ga Tech we folded and lost to a already bad team missing their best offensive weapon and missing like their whole starting secondary

Group chat with some friends. And another text with a local bar owner as I complained about missing out on another Big 10 Championship weekend here in Indy.

Both of them said, “at least you’ll be in the playoffs”

So yeah. No one else gets it. And we look silly when the path to what they consider great is still there.

They’re wrong but also right.
Im not ready to look at it from this perspective yet. If Day doesn't get to the NC I just don't know how he keeps his job. I've been a big Day defender, but 0-4 to scUM after Urban is literally unacceptable. Especially after being favored by 21pts. I'll probably just log off for a few days. This was a tough loss

Just got home from the game. Wow. Just wow.

We kept thinking the O would unfuck itself. So many chances but it just never materialized. At this point I think we need to ride the Day program through next year. He either brings the team back to the Top 10 and into the playoffs or he fails. Then we know if his ship is righting itself or if it is slowly sinking.

How do you not acknowledge and discount three years of CHEATING?!? Mind blowing.

Which would've been a real narrative if we weren't decimated at the OL position. Not defending him because today was inexcusable but damn it's always something with this program.

It’s stubborn bad coaching to keep trying that narrative with said depleted OL. That’s always been Days biggest issue he will keep forcing things that clearly aren’t working just because he wants them to work

Not sure how I am supposed to reconcile:

Team is just made up of a bunch of mercenaries here for the money.

We need to hire/cut a fat check to a coach to replace our current one who has one of the highest winning percentages of current coaches, if not the highest.
I think that’s a fair question.

Something has been off with the leadership of this program for a few years now. I loved having all these guys come back, but maybe the core of the program is rotted out as well?? Some guys have flashed at times but the overall play has been so underwhelming…..

It’s kinda crazy…Michigan was spectacular last year largely built on late rd draft picks and UDFA’s that wanted to finish their college careers out on a championship caliber team.

We returned 1st rd talent across the board, largely using NIL $$$ and you’d have to say the ROI for this season has been terrible…..we haven’t played a clean game all year, have no team identity, and just feel stuck in the mud.

I’m not going to lie, while I appreciate the defensive effort of this team, I’m looking forward to new blood/new talent coming to the forefront. Other than Jack Sawyer, I’ve been pretty underwhelmed with the leadership from the upperclassmen on this team. JMO…..and the loss of Seth McClaughlin was massive…..but it kinda sucks we needed to infuse that leadership to begin with.

Rory McIntyre hasn't won a major since 2014. The last few times he had a chance he blew it at the end. After 72 holes during which the pressure builds and builds. It is now so great it may be beyond his reach.

The Michigan game is at the end of the season. OSU can't achieve a success regardless of what they do for 11 games - while the pressure builds and builds.

My biggest issue with Day is that he is too high strung for THIS job. Today was his Rory McIntyre moment. He had EVERYTHING he could ask for. How does he come back from this?

But let's finish out the season first.
