HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I don't think it was any one thing. They outcoached us all day, then the physical play took over.

It's more than one thing, and eerily similar to what we saw last year. That's my concern. What changes 12 months from now?
It's the dropped passes. It's the stupid penalties. It's the blown coverages. It's the missed tackles. All of the above were hallmarks of John Cooper teams in The Game. Ryan Day does not have the confidence and the "FUCK THEM" attitude Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer (read my signature) had. Ryan Day is tense, that is sensed by his team, and it shows on the field through all of these mistakes. All of these issues start with the guy at the top.

That's ingrained. I don't know how you "fix" that.

Remember when Ryan Day said he wanted to build the program around "Love" (i.e. loving your teammate/brother)?

I think we need to rethink that approach. I don't think it's working. I think we're either coming out soft or something just isn't clicking.

We need a different mentality and it comes from the top (Day).

that stupid ass head butt that cost 15 yards on top of the holding ruining great field position doesn’t happen under Tressel or Meyer. That easily could be called the biggest turning point. Everything was way downhill from there. Team and coaches played with straight reckless emotion which never works out well

I am at the point that I don't trust Day anymore. I was super high on him, and believe he can be a great coach, but something is seriously off.

The killer that is required to be a championship winning coach doesn't seem to be there, and his stubborn tendencies are crazy.

I am not sure firing him is the answer because it's not like there are all these great coaches out there.

Not sure what to think.

I'm a firm believer that some guys who are really coordinators just aren't cut out to be head coaches. We see it in the NFL all the time.

I hope that's not what we're seeing from Day, but it's starting to feel that way.

He peaked with the Clemson game in the CFP. It's been downhill since.

The record is still outstanding overall, but disturbing tendencies pop up periodically during the season and metastasize in The Game. Thing is - Buckeye fans don't give a shit if your records is 45-5 when 2 of those 5 are consecutive games to ttun.

Agree on not firing him. There's no one available that can come in and produce and recruit at the same level.

Not sure about killer mentality. I think he has it, the problem is you can be a killer but it won't look great if you're trying to kill someone with a spoon.

Actually I was thinking Fickell, but maybe Vrabel is the guy, but again he is a total NFL guy. He has never recruited.

The only viable option would be Fickell, who if he had Hartline, and kept Knowles, I think it could work.

Firing him isn't even an option outside of fans venting on message boards.

He wins a lot (45-5), runs a clean program, puts tons of guys in the NFL and is a great "face" of a program.

Guarantee that's not even a twinkle in Gene Smith's mind right now. We need to accept that this is where we are and things aren't likely to change without some outside (NFL) influence anytime soon. Our only hope is that Ryan Day actually takes this one personally and sets to making things right next year. I have my doubts based on what I've seen that he's capable of that. Hope I'm wrong, because the 90's fucking sucked and that's what this feels like.

Either Day doesn’t have the players to be the team he wants to be or he doesn’t have the coaches to mold the players. One thing that I notice week in and week out in threads is the commentary around Days stubbornness. I think he really needs to take a few weeks after the season and reflect a bit on what he wants.
