HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

If Day is hell-bent on not having a running QB, then maybe he can look back to what was done with a player like Krenzel. Doesn't need to be the home run threat that JT/Brax/Fields were, but we need a QB that can scramble for the yards that are needed and isn't afraid to stick their nose in there. That's a change he needs to make in the player that he looks for and how he views the QB position. Again, this isn't the NFL, quit trying to force it to be that way. Hell, the NFL has been far more influenced over the last decade by the college game. Recognize that and think like you're playing the college game instead of the NFL.

Day looks tight on the sideline in big games. He looked nervous early and worse in the second half. I can't imagine that helps players who are doubting themselves.
I said just as the second half started when the camera panned to Day. "He looks like John fucking Cooper."
Arms nervously crossed, eyes wide and darting around. He is tight in this game, his team senses it and it bleeds into their play.

He is not cut out for a pressure cooker like this.

Im not sure Day is against a running QB but Stroud is a extremely reluctant runner. I'm not sure if he has ever played in a system that required him to run and his arm talent might have never required him to lean on the run.

It's an odd situation to have a QB that his a very capable runner that is this reluctant to run. Stroud doesn't have that instinct to run at all. He constantly missed his window to pick up yards with his feet while waiting for a receiver to come open.

I think a OC with a strong history of using run concepts would have pushed to have Stroud run. I also think they could augment not having a running QB by having a hybrid and installing stronger run concepts. This offense is so basic when it comes to the run and had basically no creativity what so ever.

Well he chose McCarthy over McCord.
I think Devin Brown is an athlete but if he starts McCord bolts.
And as I’ve mentioned before Raiola makes John Navarre look like Usain Bolt.

All the talk of holding stuff back appears to be just that, talk. Trying to take the post loss anger out of it (mostly unsuccessfully), I do think it would be good for Day to give up the play calling and bring in a new offensive coordinator to update the offense. Fresh set of eyes and all that. And that's all I have to say about that.
Yep, turns out Day was running all the shitty plays that don’t work instead of the ones that do work because he’s a stubborn masochist.

Yes, was hoping to see all these plays that were being secreted away. Instead I saw the same shit I saw all year. In fact I was dismayed by the fact that arguably the best WR group and QB in the country had no plays dialed up for a shitty DB squad.

That's all window dressing. As long as Day is a ball of nervousness in these situations, the team will continue to mirror him regardless of who is calling in the plays. All of those drops weren't because of bad play calls.

Was play calling an issue? Sure. But there are bigger issues than simple play calling.

Boarding plane.

Last post.

How about we shit can our dedicated special teams coach in favor of a dedicated position coach.

Nothing wrong with our special teams. Seem very average to me. We have a good kicker and punter. Not sure the ST coach had anything to do with that.

Give that responsibility to one of the 20 analysts.
Has Parker Fleming ever been the point on a recruit we’ve signed?

Just imagine the pressure a year from now, heading to Ann Arbor.

Some folks seem to think TTUN will fade but if anything their recruiting position just got stronger. It's fun to joke about Hairball, but he resurrected Stanford before taking the 49ers to a SB with Kaepernick. He can coach, and he's in a better job than Stanford. Waiting for them to fall could be a long wait unless the NFL lures him back.

Day has to figure this out. All next season is going to be met with skepticism before The Game. God help him if he loses three straight.

Oh they aren't going anywhere....

We will continue to out recruit them because Jim is freaking weird.

The answer isn't "oh get more physical!" Or "competitive stamina" or more leadership counsels. The answer is to be fundamentally sound, to have some balls, and to do everything you can to win. If that means throwing 100 times or running it.

They show up well coached, disciplined, tough and opportunistic with taking their shots.

Day on the other hand? We come out like an inexperienced fighter throwing haymakers in the 1st round. Ttun has just absorbs our best shots and then has got to work when they've known our best was behind us.

Toughness isn't something you can just fake.

It’s not Mick, it’s Day. Ramzy has written about this on numerous occasions. Urban demanded weight room warriors, Day does not.

Last two versus TTUN:

First half - OSU 33, TTUN 31
Second half - OSU 17, TTUN 56

They've got 28 points in the second half of both games. One team seems to have more left in the tank as the game wears on. Doesn't feel like a coincidence.
