HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Last two versus TTUN:

First half - OSU 33, TTUN 31
Second half - OSU 17, TTUN 56

They've 28 points in the second half of both games. One team seems to have more left in the tank as the game wears on. Doesn't feel like a coincidence.

Eh lack of adjustments and scUM continuing to exploit what is exploitable has more to do with it than the strength and conditioning.

We are like the Clubber Lang of college football lol...

We throw bombs with no regard for wearing a team down. If a team can get to the half within striking distance there's a shot we won't answer the bell.

To use a golf analogy. Our long game is good but our mid and short games are bad.

Day seems lost when he has to plan to punch it in from <30 yards out. He just reverts to his favorite non working play calls about every time

Not sure how S&C helps a badly pulled hammy or a rolled ankle/tweaked knee. Maybe affects plantar fasciitis.

I also think worrying about how he looks on the sidelines doesn't matter. He looked like a coach whose team was losing. Half the time I couldn't tell if Urban was going to have a stroke or pass out.

As far as I see it, Day addressed the defense, but they remain a team that is feast or famine. And the gambling for big plays on both sides of the ball has caught up with him. Long TDs aren't coming consistently enough to solve red zone issues, and teams aren't biting on playaction nor surprised by any wrinkles. Feels like they're constantly running low percentage plays at crucial times.

Add in that the offense has lacked rhythm much of this season and he has a clusterfuck to figure out on his side of the ball. Part of that has been due to losing JSN, but part of it has been how they've structured everything. He needs to start with himself, decide on how well Wilson fits with what he wants, and how helpful it might be to have someone pushing him outside his comfort zone. I think he needs it, because his shit isn't working that well anymore.

He's lost the optimism people had after early results. Now he has a year to fix it.

Maybe, maybe not. They couldn't run the ball at all in the first half. By the middle of the third it started working. By the fourth they were gaining chunks.

They weren't doing anything fancy. They were just lining up, creating holes, and hitting them.

scUM figured out where we were attacking the run every time and did the opposite. Great success. Then of course more refusal to adjust.

I think it had to do with OSU getting desperate and guessing on runs to get big stops. Just like guessing and getting burned on PA.

None of it has to do with this toughness or soft bullshit, and probably not as much to do with training. Teams are figuring shit out and out maneuvering OSU.

I don't think it was any one thing. They outcoached us all day, then the physical play took over.

It's more than one thing, and eerily similar to what we saw last year. That's my concern. What changes 12 months from now?

they need to delete the “we are going to prove we are tough!” Mindset for one. Things like that need to come naturally when you constantly arrogantly try to force it it’s gonna back fire every time like today.

Yep, that's what worries me too. Feels like there was every reason to be mentally sharp and have great play calls dialed up. Yet they looked like they were playing Maryland again.

I beg to differ. I saw a lot of mental toughness and softness out there today. They're on their bench saying the Bucks are who they thought they were while we've got a back up TE head-butting a guy for a dumb penalty, at a crucial point of the game. Basically killed a drive at midfield, down 4, because he couldn't behave himself.

it’s really easy. Teams have figured out we are completely reliant on big plays and Day turtles as a play caller when forced to string together long scoring drives. Keep everything in front and we are in trouble
