HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

Firing him isn't even an option outside of fans venting on message boards.

He wins a lot (45-5), runs a clean program, puts tons of guys in the NFL and is a great "face" of a program.

Guarantee that's not even a twinkle in Gene Smith's mind right now. We need to accept gat this is where we are and things aren't likely to change without some outside (NFL) influence anytime soon. Our only hope is that Ryan Day actually takes this one personally and sets to making things right next year. I have my doubts based on what I've seen that he's capable of that. Hope I'm wrong, because the 90's fucking sucked and that's what this feels like.

Hope so too.

He is a young HC, though. I think he capable of a lot more. But it's harder to believe we'll see that sooner than later.

Totally agree he's not getting fired tomorrow, but if the Bucks get thumped in Ann Arbor next year...

This isn't the 90s. The bar has been raised since then. When you're recruiting against the SEC powers you're not expected to miss the CCG and CFP. Then there are the NIL donors, who aren't going to be so generous if this keeps happening. Day's leash is definitely shorter than Coop's was in his era.

Either Day doesn’t have the players to be the team he wants to be or he doesn’t have the coaches to mold the players. One thing that I notice week in and week out in threads is the commentary around Days stubbornness. I think he really needs to take a few weeks after the season and reflect a bit on what he wants.[/QUOTEpicture...,

He can get a head start on that tonight. I'm in the camp that he just gets play calls stuck in his head and won't give up when they don't work. Not even remotely close to talking about firing the guy, but we had the talent to scorch every team except MAYBE Georgia. Instead we'll end up in some meaningless bowl game. Last year I get it. Not this year. I'm not saying hot seat, but he cannot lose to ttun next year or else he might be gone.

I think Gene Smith should talk to Ryan Day and encourage him to pursue the NFL sooner than later if that is his ultimate goal.

Luke Fickell is probably the most likely person to take over if Day moves on. I don't think we want Fickell to take a job at a better program and now have to convince him to leave to come back to the Buckeyes. I think Fickell ultimately wants to be HC for the Buckeyes but they shouldn't want to make it a hard choice for him if he builds up another big name program.

You never considered the idea that the players he wanted and needed to play his game are injured?

I mean no JSN or Henderson. You can't tell me you didn't think Day had screens and wheel routes drawn up for Henderson all season long? If you would go back and read Hendersons page that's all we talked about. Day must be saving passes to him for this game.

Also JSN would have carved this game plan TTUN had to pieces.

It's really hard when you recruit all these 5 stars and a bunch of them are hurt.

Oh, 100%. I'm not saying he's going to be given 7, 8, 10, 12 years if he keeps losing The Game, but if he's winning 11 games, going to NY6 bowls and the money is flowing, I don't think Smith is gonna fire him anytime soon. Lets say we win the I Don't Give A Shit Bowl this year and go into The Game 10-1 next year...then lose (I'd put it at about 98% we do right now)...Do you think Smith fires Day with a 56-7 record? I don't. Now if next year is wildly disappointing, say 7-5 with a loss to ttun...then maybe we're talking.

I still think Day is good enough coach to keep winning at a prolific pace, just not the ones we really want. That complicates things.

Honestly, me, NFBuck, I'd give him next year to get it right and I'd make sure he's aware of it in no uncertain terms. Lose to them 3 times in a row, you're out. But I don't have all the other considerations Gene Smith does; I'm just a frustrated fan.

Injuries are not a valid excuse when your biggest wounds in the game are self-inflicted. Penalties, dropped passes, blown coverages, and missed tackles had nothing to do with JSN and Henderson not playing. This team tripped over their own dick repeatedly today.

Plus, ttun's offense was Blake Corum all year. He was hurt and a nonfactor today yet they still kicked our ass. Injury excuse doesn't pass the sniff test, sorry.

They couldn't get any pressure on Stroud either and were missing Morris all game.

They beat the brakes off us without their best offensive and defensive players.
