Desoto's 2012 football season team highlights. Shows some really good competition.

Desoto plays in the biggest division in Texas, 5a. Some great competition, and dontre burned a lot of the best defenders in the state on a weekly basis. This kid could be a stud if he puts in the work. Can't wait to see him, marshall and Clark on the field at the same time one day

Ohio State Football: Is Dontre Wilson the Next Ted Ginn Jr. for the Buckeyes?

Towards the end of May, incoming Ohio State freshman RB Dontre Wilson tweeted that he was going to wear No. 1 this season.

Considering the significance of the No. 1 in the college game and how so few players get that number, it's a good bet that Urban Meyer is trying to send a message, both to Wilson and the rest of the Big Ten.

Wilson was one of the most dangerous offensive weapons coming out of Desoto, Texas, sporting an incredible amount of speed and explosiveness, something sorely lacking from any Buckeye not named Braxton Miller.

Meyer pulled a huge coup with an assist from Chip Kelly when the latter's departure from Oregon prompted Wilson to decommit to the Ducks and sign with OSU.

Being a master of motivating players, allowing Wilson, a true freshman, to wear the No. 1 says a lot about what Meyer thinks of him and what he expects of him.

Contd....

Reminds me of a taller DeAnthony Thomas. Might not get up to speed quite as quick, but has the high-end speed that kills. You see him kill defender's angles and against great competition at that. I can see why UFM had Mr. Wilson so high up on his board. If he puts in the work, he will be special. What I really like is that he has a fairly distinct skill set from Marshall, so I could see the combo being utilized in many different ways. I think Dontre could easily be used at RB with his ability (when he isn't playing Pivot) to give fresh legs for Elliott, which allows us to focus in on one elite RB for 2014 and only take one.

^ This.

Wilson is the fastest thing we have seen in a gray helmet with Buckeye stickers on it since Ted Ginn.

Braxton, Hyde, Smith, and Brown have to get their touches, but Urban/Herrman will have to let this guy have the ball in Wilson's hands at least 6-8 times a game. He will scare opposing DC's to death.

As far as track speed.....maybe. Brandon Saine was a 10.3 guy but maybe Dontre is too.

I'm just talking about what I see with my eyes from his highlight tape - knowing that he is playing against very good competition.

I don't care if this guy runs a 9 or 13 sec flat 100. On a football field he has difference-making speed, quickness, or whatever you want to call it.

Watch the highlight tape and tell me you don't have an erotic football experience. :)

Still haven't fully digested the fact that we will see Dontre on the field at the same time as Braxton and Hyde. I know we have lots of other offensive studs in his class and on the current roster but I think of the difficulty defenses will have in preparing for Braxton to run or throw, Hyde to bruise it up the middle or Dontre on a counter play, slant pattern, etc. Talk about having your hands full as a DC....wow. UM and TH have lots of talented freshmen coming in but you know they are chomping at the bit to get their hands on him. We missed on Diggs so this is really the first player they will have who is completely made for this offense. Think he won't see the field early? D Thomas made a big impact in his rookie campaign in Eugene and so will Wilson in C-Bus and I can't stop thinking about it. :tongue2:

This is a recruit who was WAY up on the big board early for this staff and they are getting ready to get him into the mix. They have to be beside themselves. There was a lot of hype pre season last year about an up tempo pace but we didn't really see it. With the current players having a full year of experience and the staff bringing in the exact kind of players they wanted I expect that to change and Dontre to be right in the thick of it. What a great time to be a fan. (It's just extremely painful to wait on the season this year)

:oh:

Showmebuck think of the triple read option play from last year. Philly Brown motions into the backfield, Braxton reads the inside handoff to Hyde and then pulls to run the option with Philly Brown running the other way.

Now just picture that play with either Marshall or Wilson running in replace of Philly Brown. That play to go along with the speed sweep are the two plays I think the two freshman will see the most time with this year. Excited for Wilson and Marshall doesn't say it well enough.

Well said gents. I am not an X and O guy very much....I just know we haven't had a player like Wilson yet. And this is not slight to Marshal who I am very excited to have as well. I guess the point is that our offensive schemes will dramatically change with one class and I can't wait to see it.

*plus I just wanted to get the conversation going about Dontre. Wearing #1 this year? Wow. Let's get it on B1G. Hope you boys can handle an offense that will smash you in the mouth AND gas you with speed.

D'Anthony Thomas comes to mind. Hope we can utilize him similarly...

Agreed. Just get the kid the ball in space. Hopefully he returns kicks and punts as well. I can't wait to watch his career while in S&G, he can be a unique talent in urbans offense. I have to calm my excitement (and coach Meyer did that with his comments in the article, lol) because he's only a frosh, but his speed and agility make you not want to blink or you'll miss him

I think it is difficult for all Buckeye fans to temper their excitement about Dontre b/c we haven't seen someone in S&G w/ that type of explosiveness w/ the ball in their hands since Teddy Ginn Jr. Personally, I can't wait for that 1st ko return, punt return or end around and watch him leave people in his dust. Mid 4.3's forty is smokin'. And even if he does not have a break out freshman year, 2-3 more years in the weight room and in Urban's offense, it's only a matter of time.
