No one here is saying, or even implying, that any white wishes they could still use the word without ridicule or consequence. As I posted earlier, Jews don't use anti-Sematic slurs nor do Hispanics use anti-Hispanic slurs. Blacks are the only ethnic group that uses the vilest, most demeaning word against them as everyday slang or even a term of endearment (e.g., "my nigga"), and yet they get wrapped around the axle when non-blacks (not just whites) use it. If the word is heinous, then it is heinous regardless of the mouth from which it is uttered...period.

MililaniBuckeye, I take it that you do not hang out with the black youth of today. You just do not get it. There is a reason nobody agrees with you on this. Also being a staff member, one would think you would be above the name calling and such.

I work in a section of about 40 people where about 25% are black under they age of 30, and have been in such an environment for nearly 40 years since joining the service out of high school in '75. And maybe it's the black youth that's the problem with the usage of the word, because they didn't go through near the heinous shit their grandparents and maybe even their parents went through. I've personally seen the generational social shift from where a young black man would never call another black that word in any other way but to start a fight to where it's cool among black youth. So don't tell me I don't get it.

White kids chant the n-word and talk about lynching and people complain that they get punished or that we're giving it too much attention.

Black kid says the n-word and those same people lose their damn mind because they don't think it gets enough attention.

There is no other way to interpret these contrasting reactions.
