I have absolutely nothing against JZ. He played a very solid game yesterday, did what he needed to do, etc. That being said, Smith adds something to our offense that we may really need next week against the Horns. Remember, yesterday our Defense was able to stop Miami enough that the offense didnt have to work extra hard, outscoring them. I am not so sure that's gonna be the case next week, or against Iowa, etc. Not that Texas will score 200 points, course not, but if we have to make a drive in 2 minutes, I would rather have Smith back there....just my opinion though. Not necessarily the correct one.

yeah good point, come to think of it, id much rather have smith against another team because he's proven he can win the big game against michigan.... i like em both a lot and its a shame that only one can start, but now that i think of smith lighting up michigan, with his arm and legs, im not so sure anymore

The screens and slants worked beautifully for Zwick all game long, but when it came to a sizeable throw, he was off. Now, if Texas can't defend the screen or slant than Zwick will succeed. If Texas stops those plays then I would be more confident having Smith in there who can throw deep.

A little about Texas

OK, I'm a Texas fan, and needless to say I'm really looking forward to this game. Here's a few things to bear in mind:

1. Texas isn't all about Vince Young. The RB situation is just fine with three talented players. The TE is AA caliber and has speed to stretch the field. The WRs we still don't know much about because the best one didn't play yesterday, although the others looked OK in limited action. We made no attempt to stretch the field.

2. Texas does indeed have a defense, and it is pretty fast. The DL is talented and deep. The LBs are undersized but quick and hard-hitting. The secondary is also talented and deep. The defense is now coached by Gene Chizik, and he's not dumb.

3. The OL may be the strength of the team. Talented and very experienced.

4. Texas has the personnel to win on the LOS on both sides of the ball. I'm not predicting that they will because who knows what will happen, but they are capable of it.

5. As for Vince, remember that he does a lot of damage on off-schedule plays. You can spy him, but you'll be leaving something else open. See #1 above.

6. You have a definite edge in special teams.

7. To those predicting a big OSU win, well, I'll take the 21 points someone on another thread was predicting.

I personally thing the scoring will be in the low 20s. The winning score might be like 20-14 or something like that, and it could be either team.

Fire away with any questions you might have. Don't bother with the insults; I'm here to talk football.

Actually that isn't correct. Mangold was a starter and hasn't been drafted, but he might be.

Actually, you're the one incorrect, stats boy. Alex Stepanovich started at center in 2002.

Haha, that's kind of my point. SMU? TCU? Tech? Baylor? etc etc. y'all need to calm down. That's like us talking trash to LSU about our records against teams in the state of La. La-Laff:2-0!!! YES!!!! haha, ease up kids. I see i get more responses if i spark controversy than if i ask a favor. Does no one want to help me scrape up an ID?? I said i'd pay and such. Y'all are going to need help getting in to the game next year in austin. I could help...but either way, please!

Don't just pick out the patsies of the group and leave out the rest. Check the list again. 2-0 against Nebraska, 1-1 against Oklahoma, 4-0 against A&M, etc. And as for Texas Tech, we pounded them 45-21 the same year they beat you 42-38, so don't talk shit...

yeah, but you have to take into account the teams....teams change every year. what were these teams ranked when you beat them, what were you ranked?? if this was the year that you won the NC, then of course you should beat these teams.....think about what you're saying. If you beat nebraska in teh past 2 years or whatever (which i know it isn't)...but still you have to take into account the ups and downs of each team and conference and such

This has been suggested a couple times here, but I'm not sure what the basis for it is. What consitutes a sizeable throw, and how many did Zwick attempt yesterday? The 20-yard touchdown strike over a defender to the back corner of the endzone was a pretty nice throw. The only true bomb I remember being attempted was the one to Holmes that had a pass interference called. You can argue that Tressel didn't call bombs because he didn't think Zwick would complete them, but I think it's more likely that Miami was concerned about our speed at receiver and made a concerted effort to keep everything in front of them (I couldn't really tell since I watched the game on t.v. (until they switched to TCU-OU, that is).

At any rate, Zwick has completed some long distance passes, and I think that's a legitimate part of his game. Remember, the bomb isn't exactly a high-percentage play, regardless of who your quarterback is.

I think that it's pretty hard to judge whether or not Zwick would have hit Holmes on that play or not.......watching TV replays isn't the most accurate form of judgement. If that, along with his INT were his worst plays yesterday......I'll take it......along with a 34-14 victory.

How about this little thing that I noticed about this weekend's games.

Teams that Big 12 teams defeated this weekend:

Arkansas St.
Colorado St.
Florida International
Maine
Illinois St.
Montana St.
La-Lafayette
Floriday Atlantic
SMU

Teams that Big 12 teams lost to this weekend:

Clemson
TCU

Two things I take from this:

1) Bill Snyder's philosophy of scheduling has infiltrated your entire league, at least in regards to the first week of season play.
2) The Big 12 is really down this year, considering two of your arguably best teams lost to Clemson and TCU.

Agreed on your views of the turnovers....there is no way we can turn the ball over and expect to stay in the game. I will argue on our special teams being "horrible." Yes, it needs improvement, but our punting is solid...and our kickoffs are really good. That was McGee's first game as the place kicker. I am curious to see if a buddy of mine from HS David Pino (who kicked 2 PAT's last night) will take over the place kicking. He hurt his groin this summer which is one of the reasons he didn't win the job, but McGee's timing was off on his approach. I am interested to see the response from the coaching staff
