sure it exists but anymore its about as worthless as that one weird ass faceblocking penalty for recievers. they never get called these days. if it was thought about more it would be prolly be more common then holdings.

Please cite to me in the rule book where it states that, it would help clear things up. Here is the NCAA rule book link, link so go dig for a while and cite to me where it states that a run off should occur. If you want to talk a good game, you had better be prepared to back it up bro.

Illegal Delay of the Game
ARTICLE 2. a. The ball shall be declared ready for play consistently
throughout the game by the referee when the officials are in position.
Consuming more than 25 seconds to put the ball in play after it is
declared ready for play is an illegal delay.
b. Illegal delay also includes:
1. Deliberately advancing the ball after it is dead.
2. When a team has expended its three timeouts and commits a Rule
1-4-4, 1-4-5, 1-4-6-b, 3-3-3-f-4-(g), 3-3-4-e or 9-2-2-d infraction.
3. When a team is not ready to play after an intermission between periods
(other than the half), after a score, after a radio/television/team
timeout or any time the referee orders the ball put in play (A.R. 3-4-2-I).
4. Defensive verbal tactics that disconcert offensive signals (Rule 7-1-5-
a-3).
5. Defensive actions designed to cause a false start (Rule 7-1-5-a-4).
PENALTY—Five yards from the succeeding spot [S7 and S21].
Unfair Game-Clock Tactics
ARTICLE 3. The referee shall order the game clock started or stopped whenever
either team conserves or consumes playing time by tactics obviously
unfair. This includes starting the clock on the snap if the foul is by the team
ahead in the score. The clock will start on the ready-for-play signal after an illegal
forward or backward pass that conserves time for Team A(A.R. 3-4-3-I-IV).

Quite clearly this should have been a delay of game penalty and the clock should have been put in motion!

Please elaborate on this rule, you didn't explain it at all.

How should a play that wasn't determined until after it was consulted be considered a delay of game? How do you make that call? The coach called it in the heat of the game, this isn't college basketball.......you don't get a "T" for calling a timeout when you have none left in college football.........at least to my knowledge.

in college and high school football(atleast in ohio) if a team is out of timeouts and tries to use one, the ref either ignores the attempted timeout, or tells the coach he doesn't have any, but in that case the ref just ignored him because only the head coach can call a timeout(and the players on the field also)

Funny how the people calling for strict enforcement aren't mentioning ND rushing the field before the game is over. Would Charlie Weis standing at midfield for a minute or two be considered legal under a strict interpretation of the rules?

So I went to all the major sports media sites, looking to see if there was any "expert" interpretation on this major controversy. Funny thing is, no one else seems to think there was one. Not one site criticized the calls that ended the game.

Since the game clock said 0:00 when they came out, I don't think any ref could have been expected to call a penalty for anybody being on the field.

It would have been interesting to see the national reaction if a homer Irish ref had called Bush for 'Pushing the runner' illegally on the last play of the game, giving ND the win.

What are the facts by the way? You never explained them.......you kind of ran off and took the easy route.......acting like you had a lady friend over, and ran off......probably while you search the rest of Buckeyeplanet.

I don't see the controversy here either. The only quarrel I think anybody could have was where the ball should've been spotted after the Lienart fumble. But the replay (bad angle) didn't show me conclusively that the spot was a bad call either. I think the refs got it right at the end. ND's defense didn't...And it takes some serious balls to not kick a field goal in that situation. Gotta give it up to PC for that call. He would've been second guessed for decades if they got stuffed...

AHHH FUCK!! Now that that is over congrat's Methomps! Your team made the big play when they had to.

I barely got to see the game but very well may spent most of the night watching it over and over. At least ND made a game of it this year. As for what a win would of done for ND, well sorry but ND is already back at least when to comes to recruiting.

Sort of nice hearing you guys give ND some prop's and cheering for them for a change. :biggrin:

Seriously though, I certainly would've liked to see ND pull this one out, but then get killed by Tenn. later this year. That was my perfect scenario...:)
