Game Thread Game Five: Penn State 17, Ohio State 10 (Final)

Well you know we have our starting QB for this year and next year with Troy Smith. I'm behind im 100% and I'm sure he's giving all he's got, but you're right his reads are poor and he's just more of an athlete. While I also think we definatly need an offensive coordinator I think Smith is just maybe not cut out to be a QB.

Man I just hope Tressel gets an OC cuz it would suck if it ultimatly cost him his job.

Jesus H fucking christ, does Ohio State have to go 12-0 every year to maintain a fanbase?

Penn State out-Tressled us tonight. They didn't make mistakes and relied on their defense to carry them to the win. Sound familar? I'm pretty new to this forum so forgive me if I'm assuming too much, but do ~50% of you guys expect to just steamroll everybody and win a national championship every year? If you're one of those guys I think there's still a little room left on the USC bandwagon, better hurry up and jump on. Be quick though, because they're gonna be down a bit in a couple of years just like we were last year.

What I see from the 2005 team is a marked improvement from last year. We're at least competing in every single game and solidly beating the teams we should beat. It may not get them another ring but I'm still gonna be cheering for Ohio State no matter what. And I will NOT be attacking the coaching staff. We have been in a posistion to win every single game we have played this year. You can pray for all the breaks to fall your way, but you can't expect more than that from coaches. Sucks for us, but call off the lynch mob. How many BCS bowls did Cooper win? He had as many shots at them as Tressle has had so far and I seem to recall a couple of memorable evenings out in Arizona that would tip the scales in Jim Tressle's favor.

Take a deep breath and step away from the ledge people.:oh: :io:

Regarding play calling: PSU won the game - was their play calling so hot?

Regarding talent: This team (essentially the same personnel) went 8-4 last season, and looked good in only three games (Indiana, Michigan, and Oklahoma State). How talented is this bunch?

It was one hell of game and everything I hoped it would be. Our offense really got conservative in the second half that didnt really give a chance for OSU to make a big turnover. Just curious who you guys play next week cuz i feel real bad for them.

I don't but the evenly matched and great PSU defense theories.

Bret Bazanes and NW put up 427 yds of total offense and 29 points on that same defense and they had the exact same number of TO's.

The way our offense underperforms is a fucking crime.

Sheesh, I go out to get Mexican food to help forget my sorrows and this thread has grown by eight-billion posts in an hour. My quick takes on the game:

1. The OL went to shit after Barton got hurt and they slid Sims over. Hard to find any receivers when 2-3 defensive guys are in your backfield.

2. Smith is over-doing the receiver progression thing now...there were numerous times when he had a good running lane and refused it.

3. Our WRs didn't seem to get very open often. I would guess the PSU DBs were pissed coming into the game.

4. As always, our defense ruled. Take away the gift 1-yard TD drive, and we held one of the hittest offenses in the country to 10 points and around 200 yards offense in one of their most important games in a decade.

5. Their LB POSinabucket, or whatever his name is, is an excellent LB and will be a badass down the road. Otherwise, I wasn't impressed with a whole lot of other PSU players.

6. We are killer at home, but just a good to decent team on the road...year after year.

Apologist or do I just know what its like to be on the other end?

Ever break down film? Ever put together a gameplan? Ever work your ass off for a game then have zero control about what happens between the snap and the end of the play?

I don't think you even realize what you are seeing. If 4 receivers are sent out, the defensive call will dictate where the ball goes 90% of the time. If a bad read is made, you get a turnover.

You can fire out your little insults but I would be more than happy to get into any form of football discussion with you.

Now go play your playstation and win the national championship again.

This is the first time I have went off on the offense. The offensive performance the last 5 years at a school like Ohio State is unaccetable. Like I said, can Tressel get SOME of the blame? I am not entirely blaming (o line and Troy Smith) this loss on Tressel. Doesn't Tressel call the plays? This offense has been shit for 5 years. Look at all the fucking players in the pros - Wells, Krenzel, Carter, Jenkins, Hartsock, Clarke, Walter, Olivea, Stepanovich, etc. That is off my fucking drunk mind.

Swallow Your Pride, And 'Give It Up';

HELL YES this loss hurt. All NC hopes are gone, and it will take a table run and some other stuff to hit a BCS Bowl. Let's keep our heads up and hopefully come January we'll be in a Big Time Bowl Game.

That being said (and I don't even know why this loss isn't killing me as bad as it is), I want to sincerely offer the mega-congrats to Joe Paterno and his team on their win tonight. I don't see how any true fan of CFB could ever be pissed about watching Jo-Pa win a game, even if it's at the expense of thier own, which is what happened to us tonight. THAT guy should forever be the "Poster-Boy" for what CFB is all about. He is without a doubt my "2nd" favorite CFB Coach of all-time. In victory, in his post-game interview, he still showed nothing but the greatest respect for our program. He is beyond an "icon" he is simply a living legend. Let's all rally behind PSU and see them kick the crap out of scUM next week. WHAT THE HELL, they're our last hope at the BIg Ten getting a shot at the NC!! At this point, I'd love to see them run the table and somehow get themselves into the Rose Bowl.

People want to say "the game has passed him by."

Tonite Joe, "Said It Isn't So."
