Maybe Matta's most complete class since Oden, Cook, Conley, Hunter and Lighty. '07 and '09 were full classes and '10 was a stellar class with Sullinger, Craft, Sibert, Smith and Thomas...but I just love the way this class has taken shape.

so he is officially a class of '15 kid?

What's his eligibility clock like? I've not known IMG to run a postgrad program, so is 14-15 considered a year with no school attended? 5 years to play 4 would be great, though this doesn't matter so much in hoops.

IMG is a prep school, not a college (like Cardale Jones going to military academy before OSU). You have 5 years to play 4 once you are enrolled in a university and participate on a sports team (or for scholarship athletes, once your scholarship begins). YOu could theoretically attend college for a couple of years and not play sports (on your own dime, kinda like a gray shirt) and your clock would not start ticking until you started playing a sport.

In football, kids can enroll and start classes in Jan under full scholarship. I don't know how that works for basketball. He could start taking classes at OSU in March, but not sure whether he can start practicing then and if his scholarship can begin until summer.

yes.

i mean, Giddens is no Oden and Lyle is probably no Conley (or ET or DAR for that matter), but this is a REALLY nice 5-man class that brings a lot of different things to the table with a good talent level across the board.

note: i wanted to use RSCI rankings below but work LAN wouldn't let me, so these are 247 Composite:

5'9 PG A.J. Harris (82nd overall) - lightning-quick ballhandler and floor general
6'5 CG Jaquan Lyle (38th overall) - big bodied guard who can score and distribute
6'4 SG Austin Grandstaff (45th overall) - prototypical college SG, great shooter
6'7 F Mickey Mitchell (104th overall) - somewhat unique athlete, a gifted passer
6'10 C Daniel Giddens (46th overall) - defensive beast in the paint AND against the P 'n R

really excited to add these guys (along with Trevor Thompson and Bell) to Tate, Loving, Kam, and KBD. it's going to provide a nice foundation through the next four season cycle and hopefully we can pick up just the right couple guys to add to that in 2016.

I'm not sure about that. 2010 was a special class with the trio of Sully, Craft and DT being stars and Smith being a solid role player while Sibert was talented enough to cut it but didn't stick with it at OSU. They had the bases covered more or less. This 2015 crew clearly doesn't have the headliners like 2010 (Sully and DT were McD's AAs), but these guys might have more long-term impact. I do think Lyle has some NBA potential, although he will need to get in shape (not a concern for me, OSU's guards/wings have always worked into great shape over the offseason) and may need some seasoning with his perimeter shooting to come into his own. But I do like the 2015 class, as Lyle and Giddens could/should start quickly, while Grandstaff and Harris both have a shot at starting early depending on Matta's preferences & have skills that can help the team right away as well.
