G/F Jaquan Lyle (transfer to New Mexico)

Looks like we might need to move this back to the regular recruiting forum. This site classifies him as a G/F but ESPN and Scout classify him as a PG. I wonder if Thad sees us losing both Russell and of course Scott. This leaves Amos as the sole ball handler next year. I just don't see us using Mitchell as the number two ball handler.

JaQuan Lyle tells me that he will visit Ohio St January 2-4

After Oregon dismissed three players in the spring, the Ducks' roster was a little thin heading into the 2014-15 season. One player expected to provide a major boost was incoming freshman guard JaQuan Lyle.

As of Tuesday night, though, Lyle is no longer listed on the Oregon roster for the upcoming season.

Certainly getting a guy like Lyle is what you have to do when you lose a guy like Russell to the NBA in order to keep the team from having a rebuilding year. It is amazing to see how things seem to be lined up to give Lyle an opening at OSU at just the right time, hopefully OSU is able to capitalize on the opportunity. I think Lyle is a very good prospect, I'm not sure why he seems to be ranked lower this year than last year by the recruiting services, I believe he is underrated by some at this point.

Crystal Ball is trending our way on this one, most notably Jerry Meyer's pick for OSU is in. not that that means a whole lot with an enigma like Jaquan, but it's a nice thought, anyways.

this would be a big-time get in terms of need for next season. with the near certainty that D'Angelo will be off to the NBA, if you were to ask me my two major concerns about next season's team it would be, in no specific order: 1) losing our one dynamic playmaker on offense, and 2) only having one player that even remotely resembles a lead guard/PG on the roster, and that a 5'9 true frosh (though i'm certainly excited about AJ Harris overall).

Lyle addresses both issues and is a great type of combo guard to complement the much smaller but much purer PG in Harris.

youth/inexperience will be a factor next season no matter what but it's not as bad as it would look at first blush. Loving's a junior, Kam's a third year soph, TT's a third year soph option at C, Tate's playing a lot right now...if we landed Lyle, that gives you a slightly older frosh (was in 2014 class until he went the prep school route) and T50 player to trot out at lead guard to go with the other guys (also helps bolster the team size on the court, too, if we were starting both Kam and Tate at the 2/3).

fingers crossed, prayers said.

I'm with you except the youth/inexperience thing. These days in college basketball freshmen are often the most talented players, and the guys who stick around four years are often players that the fans turn into whipping boys (Amir for example). You don't have to be experienced to handle the ball well and have a high basketball IQ. I think we saw with D'Angelo this year that a stud freshman can come in and learn the college game within a couple months well enough to be a star. Hopefully Lyle can follow in D'Angelo's footsteps. As you note, Lyle has a year of prep ball at a high level academy now in addition to 4 years of high school basketball, he should be as prepared for college as a freshman can be.

Really hoping that Lyle joins the OSU team next season, I think he is just what the Dr ordered personally, with 2 starting backcourt spots apparently open they clearly can use a young man with Lyle's talent.
