What's the long term upkeep on fieldturf? Does the fill material need to be "topped off" occasionally? How do they handle patching/repairs etc?

maybe occasionally but i would assume it would need that after years of use. they regulary use a brush to comb the field to keep the infill even though. as far as repairs i would think it would be as easy as tearing a square out and sewing in a new one.

As far as topping off, the new field will probably settle some, and may need some added material brushed in. Long term though, not so much. Upkeep is regular brushing to keep infill distributed evenly. A regular application of an anti-static agent, (read fabric softener). Alot of people spray an anti-bacterial although no one has proven staph or any other infections can live in infill material. Finally there are machines out there that actually suck up the top layer of infill, filter it (read that to mean clean it) and redistribute it back on the carpet, this doesn't need to be done often, some say not at all. As far as patching, it can be done, but its not even close to easy. It's not a difficult task with the new carpet, before it is filled. All that changes afterward though as you can imagine. Also, two or three years down the road, patches will probably not match very well. It's like if you tried to glue in a repair patch in your carpet after three years, probably wouldn't look so hot. All in all it's a pretty easy surface to maintain and very durable and resistant to wear.

Looks nice but it's way too reminiscent of Wisconsin's field.
Looks nice but it's way too reminiscent of the Woody Hayes facility. :roll1:

Oh and another thing, if we were to take everything that wisky has and duplicate it, in 2 years time everyone would say wisky looks like tOSU.. because we are tOSU. :wink2:
