Field conditions at Ohio Stadium

  • I wasn't at the game but on TV, I noticed a lot of brown spots on the field yesterday and didn't know what caused it. I didn't think the field took that much of a beating in the NIU game.

Amazing how much money we spend on that field and we can't keep it looking immaculate and I don't want to hear the rainfall we've received lately as an excuse because that field can drain almost a foot of water an hour.

How long till OSU goes to the field turf to cut down on cost?

I personally prefer grass but the field looked pretty bad yesterday.

It almost looked like Dollar Spot to me. Of course, you can't get a really good look on TV. It is a very tough time of year for cool season grasses in Ohio. They can interseed when it cools down and the new seedlings will fill it in some.

Agreed, the field look like someone was using the field to practice using a sand wedge.

Chinch bugs on Ryegrass or Fescue? That's strange, they prefer Centipede or St. Augustine, both warm season grasses. I'll have to do some research on this one??? Easy to kill with Acephate (Orthene) too, although may take two applications to get the adults and their eggs. Interesting... the extension link does say they can attack cool season grasses too.

I noticed that against N. Illinois, and again yesterday. Perhaps they should consider using that turf that Michigan has in their stadium. It may not be great for the kids, but playing in conditions like they did yesterday is just begging for someone to get injured.

several players slipped several times, I even remarked that Ted should wear longer cleats. I was up too high to see the actual field condition even thought it did have brown spots in it.
