What, Katt, no Carrot Top? I thought you had a thing for redheads.

Perhaps I should have been more specific. :!

Jim Gaffigan is great. I'll never look at a Hot Pocket the same way.
Bill Cosby
George Carlin
Chris Rock
Dave Chappelle
Denis Leary

Most of you guys were too young, but Steve Martin's album was as big as Frampton Comes Alive for a while. He was as big as any act of the 70's. Lets get Small was one of the funniest stand up acts ever, it still holds up today.

"...so I shot her...with a shotgun. Blew her right in half"

"I know, you're thinking...this guy's goooood."
*POP* god dammit

BTW Carlos Mencia is terrible, steals peoples jokes, and is not even Mexican.

Wow...some pretty strong feelings about Carlos Mencia.

Once again, I am with Thump...never got Robin Williams' stand-up routine.

I mean to include Darrell Hammond as well...his impersonations are great.

It happens with all comedians...Denis Leary is probably my favorite comedian of all time and he has been accused for years of stealing material from Bill Hicks. Doesn't stop me from laughing at his jokes, nor Carlos Mencia's (who used to be a lot funnier when he was unknown).

I just don't see how people find it funny when a guy just yells "BEANER!", at the the end of every joke.

Like I said...he was a lot funnier before the TV show and the HBO specials...I saw him when I was in college in NYC and he was hysterical and also extremely socially relevant. All that is gone now...

Carlos Mencia
EDIT: Nevermind, this was already talked about.. sorry for not reading first
didnt read any of the pages, saw this and didnt know if you knew he's not really mexican but fakes it so he can make fun of 'beaners' and get away with it.. but he isn't too bad.. i just cant look at him w/o thinking he's a cheaper and less funny dave chappelle.

dane cook, carlin, lewis black, dangerfield, lewis c.k.

lewis ck is on hbo in demand this month, he's over the top.. dirty at times.. but IMO funnier than hell.. not as good as the others mentioned above

Agree, in serious roles he's great.

One Hour Photo, Awakenings, etc...

Depends when you were talking about Pre DR (pre-drug rehab) or Post DR. On drugs he was one of the funniest stream of consciousness comedians ever. You have to remember in the Mork and Mindy days none of that shit was written down, it all just came streaming out of his head. Genious IMO.

Bk, I am shocked that we seem to think that Steve Martin is among the greats. These guys did not live through the 70's. Doyourself a favor there kids. Go listen to the lets get small album. It puts me on the floor in a fit.

So...this isn't the plumbers convention?

I will throw out another name. Bob Newhart. A king of comedy.

FWIW, while I don't necessarily think that Robin Williams is the funniest stand up guy out there, I think he is one of the sharpest guys in comedy.....kind of like Jim Carrey. Dave Attell is also that same way. They can come up with wild shit off of the top of their head that leaves you puzzled, I love it.

One other guy that hasn't been mentioned who's right up there in my top 3.

Zach Galifianakis.........the guy is very random, and looks at everything through his own distorted kaleidascope.......which is what all great comedians can do.
