F Mickey Mitchell (transfer to Arizona State)

I see Mitchell as being a guy whose contributions can't be fully appreciated by the stat line alone. His teammates look to be extremely happy to see him on the floor, which is always a good thing.

He has to be a very popular player...he always looks for the open guy to pass the ball to in lieu of just
forcing up a shot.

He's an excellent "ball handler"; however, he might be a liability on the floor during "crunch time" with a 44% FT average. He definitely needs to work on foul shooting. Also, he could work on holding on to the ball a little firmer too and not let the opposition "bat it way".

Mickey has been a big disappointment so far...

Not really - he's playing like a freshman who missed the first two months of the season and is still acclimating to the game. He's had several bright spots and without some of the plays he made this year due to his basketball instincts, this team would be even worse off than it already is...

Any one truly looking at him to be the one to come in and have a Greg Oden like effect was/is fooling themselves...

The guy can't score/shoot at all, and I think he knows it. He rarely even looks to shoot, and when he finds himself open near the basket he gets the "yips".
Yes, he plays very hard, and is a very good passer, but no way is his handle good enough to ever play the point. Remember he only scored around 8-9 a game as 19 year old HS senior.

Good thing he's not a point guard then....

As a fellow freshman, I'd expect you to cut the guy some slack. This board does the same for you.

I can't really find anything I disagree with in this post. He was open multiple times just above the foul line against MSU and didn't even look a the rim. He's shooting 29% from the field and thats with being very discriminating in his shot selection. If we played the type of game where we really got up and down the floor, he'd be more effective, but he doesn't bring much to the half court offense.

His skillset can definitely do damage against another teams' bigs, especially his passing. Guys just have to constantly be moving and alert on offense and I think Mickey could be a very valuable asset the rest of the season. When things are stagnant is when he really looks sluggish and indecisive in my opinion.
