Dude couldn't even make layups, same thing in high school as what happened in college as well. You aren't necessarily wrong but the kid did have quite a few circumstances that held him back. The injury was major and he had to change his style of play. Not easy. The NCAA thing that kept him out until Christmas was brutal keeping him from trying find his "new niche." I think in another year he'd be fine but I guess he wants to give it a go elsewhere.

With all of these transfers and coaches leaving, we don't know whats happening during training and practice. There are a lot of opinions being thrown around about this and that. It's disconcerting for sure but Matta has leeway. If his guys find some heart and play hard, all will work itself out. Another year of guys looking like they really don't care? The leeway will be gone most likely.

At the time of this whole decommit-recommit business, the jury was still out on how much Mickey's athleticism would be affected by the knee injury. He's obviously a good rebounder, but with the hops he possessed as a HS soph, he could have been dominant on the boards. And he does have a really good handle, and is an outstanding passer.

Calling this an "obvious mistake" is extreme Monday AM quarterbacking IMO.

Sorry Max, but this time I am going to have to agree with DZ. I will admit that Mitchell was a pretty good passer for a big man but he was not that good. For his height and physical attributes, he should have been a fairly good rebounder which he was but his shooting was just not there. Perhaps you can blame some of it on his knee injury but I mean a layup in an open court. I am probably one of the biggest defenders of Matta on this board but I think he should have let Mickey go when he wanted to.

MICKEY MITCHELL
TRANSFERRED ON MARCH 29, 2016
A four-star small forward out of Plano, Texas, Mitchell committed to play for the Buckeyes while his brother, Mike, was a freshman linebacker for Ohio State. Nearly a year later, on Aug. 21, 2014, he decommitted. Mike had left the football team earlier that year in January. Two weeks later, though, Mitchell committed to Ohio State for a second time. He stuck with the second pledge, signing his National Letter of Intent and averaging two points and 2.8 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game. One year was enough, though.

Mitchell requested his release from the basketball program nine days after his freshman season ended, and he committed to play for UC Santa Barbara. But that didn’t last. He never enrolled and ended up at Arizona State, where he spent three seasons to end his college career. In 53 games with the Sun Devils, he managed 3.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 18 minutes per game.
