ESPN (A bunch of Death-Spiraling maroons)

Tis the season for relentless EspIn talking head whining about the Bowls. We get it JesSEC Palmer, all the BCS bowls should have SEC teams in them......:!

I think he's just upset at the process. He wants to hand out roses to bowl teams to let them know they are still competing to be his girlfriend, or something like that.

Did Palmer happen to have a pen in his right hand to emphasize his "very important" point (like he does in games)?

Proud to say I didn't see Herbstreit's rant on Northern Illinois.

Moving to the five-year anniversary (after 2008 BCS Title Game) of avoiding all things ESPiN except for games. Next mark is 10 years.

Last night during the awards ceremony ESPN stated that Bob Diaco, Notre Dame's defensive assistant coach, won the Frank Broyles award for top college assistant. They got the name right...but the camera pointed to Notre Dame Football Media Relations Director, Brian Hardin. Rumors are Wisconsin is now seeking Hardin for their next coach

Some funny stuff regarding it on Twitter last night: http://nocoastbias.com/photo-frank-broyles-award-winner/
Here was one:
@NDsidBertschy "I don't always accept awards, but when I do, I prefer to accept those intended for Bob Diaco." - @NDHardin #HeIsHardin

Caught 5 minutes of First Take this morning, and it was enough. Some idiot went off about the 2 QBs on the Heisman list with "it's not like either of them have Cam Newton numbers"...Manziel broke Newton's single-season SEC total yardage record. :ohwell:

At this point, I don't even understand tuning into ESPN for 5 minutes unless you are watching a game. What sucks is I remember the ESPN hey day in the 90's. Sportscenter was a masterpiece. It was not only full of great highlights but often one of the funniest and clever shows on tv. Now ESPN is nothing but tabloid journalism for the most part.

and yes, 30 for 30 is the exception. Yet those are directors are not under the edicts of the ESPN bosses. I have no idea how that show got green lighted by the idiots that now run that network.

I agree. The TV was on that channel when I turned it off last night, then back on this morning.

To further my reminiscing of Sportcenter, Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick were hilarious on that show. There were some things that still stick with me to me this day, especially since Sportscenter had trouble at times filling a full hour with sports highlights (which at the time is pretty much all Sportcenter was, not 20 minutes of highlights and the rest some random idiots talking about sports).

One was a riot that broke out in a South American soccer match. The fans in the stands were whacking each other with bamboo, to which Olbermann said "what was it, bamboo pole night?"

Another one that always stood out was a random soccer match no one cared about, but hey, they had to fill time. There was a goalie who made some big saves in a game, and I am pretty sure he showed up more than once on Sportscenter. Yet they would show him make a big save and Dan Patrick would shout his name "Sambuca Poliuca!" (I have no idea if I spelled that even close to right). It became a semi running gag for a while. Not that funny reading it here, but take my word for it, it was funny.

Finally, the best was the commercial after Olbermann left.

Then you should watch ESPNU. Their guys include Mike Bellotti, and nobody can tell me that guy doesn't know football. Add Tom Luginbill and other knowledgeable commentators, and you have shows worth watching.

ESPNU is basically the only one of their channels I watch except for games. And I have to say, between BTN and the three ESPNs we have on cable, college basketball season is like a smorgasbord. Hardly a night goes by without at least one entertaining matchup.
