Duke lax and accusations

The source says the woman entered the hospital well after midnight March 13 wearing a red nightgown and nothing on her feet. She was walking on her own, but there were bruises on her face, neck, and arms.
A triage nurse attended to her, but the woman did not want him to touch her because he was a man. She was then examined by a sexual assault nurse.
There were injuries to the woman's pelvic area, the source said.
According to the source, the woman did not immediately inform either the police or the hospital staff who inflicted the injuries to her.
"She never said one thing about Duke, any athlete or anything," the source said. "She just kept hollering and screaming. She never said who did it."

If she had just been raped, is it any wonder she's hysterical? Do they fucking expect her to walk into the ER calmly and sit there as if nothing happened and then quietly fill out a police report?

And the injuries sure as hell would suggest that she had been raped.

I agree it certainly is possible and logical. However, allegedly there are photos of her at the party dancing before the rape supposed to take place that show her with numerous bruises and scrapes already. So it sounds like she was already brused before she got there.

Or, it could be she was nuts,

or had the shit beaten out of her by her boyfriend before she ever got to the party and did not want to admit it.

Time will tell.

I thought those were just on her legs. Of course, now I can't find the article

Or, it could be she was nuts,
That's true, but I'd prefer to give someone the benefit of the doubt when said person goes to the ER with bruises on her face and neck and various pelvic injuries.

or had the shit beaten out of her by her boyfriend before she ever got to the party and did not want to admit it.

Time will tell.

That too is a possibility, but the story she tells certainly sounds alot more plausible to me.

I'm not saying we ought to execute the players or that they have received fair treatment, but I'm not going to say something like this:
This whole situation is bullshit. Classic case of reverse discrimination. Ever since this came to light, everybody seems to have been ready to nail the "white boys." Not only is this case horseshit, it's taken down alot of innocent people in the process.

Fuck that "ho" hope she rots in hell.

I conferred with a couple buddies today to get the "OK" on this. Both are regular visitors to my house, cool as the Arizona sky, and Black as the ace of spades. "N" Bitch cried, "N" bitch lied, "N" bitch needs fried. Peace.
until everyone has been acquited and it is proven that she lied.

ROUGH sex can cause those bruises easily before or during that..

Prosecutors are like cockrouches, they do what ever they can to move up the ladder of power.

I agree that the DA's press conf sure like he was appeasing the voters. Students cannot ruin a Political figures career, the locals can.

BK, I am with you 100%. My only point throughout has been that the Admin should have the same attitude. Suspend things until the circumstances become clear. THEN act swiftly and harshly against the guilty party/parties.

I don't know the whole story, and I know the media doesn't either, thus the reason that I feel these types of stories shouldn't be aired until after a trial has started. When the story came out it was implied that the players were guilty and they had conclusive evidence to back it up. Was the girl raped? Possibly, but who's to say its not a dispute over money or as someone else alluded "lets get the white boys" The media needs to be held accountable for defaming a persons character and ruining careers by jumping to conclusions and airing non factual stories. Thats what the tabloids are for which is seems the media is reverting to.

I believe there was an interview with the alleged victim where she was complaining saying they should be in jail because if the accused were black then they would be in jail? Does that make it right? Like I said, none of us know the whole story, but a lot seems fishy to me.

Classy post, Woody. :roll1:

Here's a concept: let's allow the police and the lawyers to sort out the innocent and the guilty. We could pretend it was their job to be fair and impartial.

Sushi - I know what you mean about letting the process move forward with fairness and impartiality. From all you have written here in the past - whether I have agreed with it or not - I would expect your stance to reflect nothing less than such a wish for common sense. However, I cannot pretend that the prosecution and defence are doing their respective jobs fairly and impartially. Sadly, both the DA and the lawyers representing the overwhelming majority of the Lacrosse team are doing little but muddy the waters. Add to this charged atmosphere the immediate leap to punitive action by the Duke Administration and the corresponding assumption of guilt by those protesting at the adjacent local college - far from a pretty picture. Finally, whether I agree with the release of the information or not, you have the dichotomy of the reported lack of DNA evidence and the questionable time-line of the alleged victim's injuries. This solidifies the positions adopted by the various camps in this story, hardening hearts and closing minds.

One day we may know the truth that makes sense of the noise and rumor presently filling the air. But, the one thing I can be sure of is that fairness is not the first thing on the DA's mind, and in this he is joined by almost every principal in the drama - plus most of the on-lookers in Durham - regardless of their viewpoint. As for sorting out the innocent from the guilty, that has to be assigned as a duty of the sitting jurors, should in fact this case ever get to trial.

I don't know if it has been mentioned in this thread (and I don't have the stomach to look), but a prosecutor's duty is to promote justice, not just seek convictions. This obligation gets lost much of the time, but his job is not to get revenge for the victim, it's to sort out who is and who is not responsible for the crime. His statement that he doesn't need DNA evidence to prosecute the lax players when the fact that there is no match with any them, smacks of politically driven prosecutorial misconduct.

You are right. The question of whether or not black suspects would be in jail if the races of the parties were reversed is completely immaterial to the question of these kids' guilt or whether or not they should be jailed while the machine gets things sorted out.

Since I understand the context of this statement, I'll agree. Why are we so quick to burn someone at the stake? At first, everyone wanted the players' to be castrated. Then, the DNA results come back. And people think the woman should rot in hell.

How about we all just relax and wait until all the evidence has been obtained before coming to any premature conclusions about what actually happened? And that's directed at you too, Mr. Prosecutor.

DURHAM, N.C. -- A small group of boosters and others close to the Duke University lacrosse team has hired President Clinton's former lawyer as part of an aggressive public relations effort to argue that the players did not sexually assault a woman at an off-campus party.
Bob Bennett, a former federal prosecutor and Washington attorney who represented Clinton in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case, is serving as a spokesman for a group calling itself the Committee for Fairness to Duke Families.
He is not expected to represent any players, but he has joined the chorus of those who fear for the reputation of the team and the university.
"It is unfortunate that members of the Duke community, players and families are being judged before all the facts are in," Bennett said in a statement. "A lot of innocent young people and the families are being hurt, and unfortunately this situation is being abused by people with separate agendas. It is grossly unfair, and cool heads must prevail."
The group has asked to meet with Duke president Richard Brodhead. Neither Brodhead nor Bennett returned calls for comment.
No charges have been filed while district attorney Mike Nifong presses on with his investigation of allegations that an exotic dancer was sexually assaulted at a team party March 13. Earlier this week, lawyers for the players said that DNA tests failed to connect any members of the 47-man team to the alleged attack.
The players' parents -- initially silent -- have also started to speak out.
Brian Loftus, who has two sons on the team, wondered Wednesday why Nifong was continuing to press ahead with the case.
"I don't understand it," said Loftus, of Syosset, N.Y.
As he has for days, Nifong refused a request for an interview. He is running for re-election in May and was scheduled to take part in a candidate forum Wednesday evening.
The family of Devon Sherwood, a freshman goalie and the team's only black member, said the DNA results should have marked the end of the investigation of the highly ranked team. The Blue Devils played for last year's national title and were considered a favorite this season before Duke canceled the season.
"I'm just glad that that ordeal is over with and hopefully as we progress with the case, it will show that all of the players will be exonerated ... of any wrongdoing at all," said Devon Sherwood's father, Chuck, of Freeport, N.Y.
Devon Sherwood was not tested because he is black, and the alleged victim, a black woman, had said her attackers were white.
