DT Cameron Heyward (6x Pro Bowl, 3x All Pro, Pittsburgh Steelers)

The big question is going to be next year. Our DL could be pretty spectacular, even if Gholston goes pro. Does Heyward or Rose step into his spot? Does Wilson regain his starting position if he comes back at full strength, or does Cam's progression this year overtake him? Either way, we are going to have AT LEAST 3 studly DEs and a few guys at DT who are improving, plus the addition of Goebel who could probably gain some PT as a True FR depending on how good the top 4 right now get by year's end. I am so pumped to see how this year ends up, but probably even moreso to see next years' squad... especially the SC game!!

There is still an outside chance that LW see's playing time this year, depending on whether his recovery time is 6 weeks or 8 weeks. Regardless, with the way the DL is rotated, the two deep will see significant playing time. Heyward has been impressive, period, let alone being a true Freshman. The hit he put on Locker was a thing of beauty. Another year under his belt and he will be a monster.

Jim Lachey just said on 1460 that Heyward would be starting over Rose tomorrow. Obviously, Rose will still get a ton of reps. Pretty impressive for Heyward.
Damn. Good for Herward. I like rose though, really thought he would flourish.. time will tell, he still a sophmore.

Anybody else out there think that Cam is going to win the Jack Tatum Hit of the Week award for the MSU game? A little zone blitz look, if I'm not mistaken, by Coach Heacock, and Heyward lit up whoever it was from Sparty. Just think, this guy is a true freshman.

The kid is amazing...definitely one of the best true freshman defenders I have seen at OSU

Getting so much playing time with the depth that we have should tell you what you need to know about his ability

Not to take away from what he is doing but the depth at DE isn't exactly "deep."

Heyward IS impressive though.

You gotta think he and Brian Rolle are pretty happy about their decision to go to OSU and get out of the south right now. That can always be tough for a freshman to come up far into colder weather, but getting playing time like they've been doing makes it impossible not to love it up here.

Heyward getting the start today. He's going to end up being one of the greatest Buckeyes of all time.

I'm telling you folks, as I've done in other threads (see MSU quote above) and say it endlessly to anyone that listens when I talk about the Bucks... this kid is SPECIAL. You're watching a player who may be THE best DLman ever at tOSU. And that's saying something. He does almost everything right. Great separation from the block, uses his hands phenominally, a motor that doesn't stop, great assignment football discipline, awareness, great angles and an iron skull to boot. I didn't know much about him when he signed out of high school, but this young man is already one of the best players on our defense as a freshman. I'm watching this PSU game in awe of his pure athletic ability, effort, and near technical perfection. He makes a severe difference. Just watch him for a series, and you'll get a sense of what I'm raving of. WOW.

:oh:

Some High remarks on the Cam from the JT - Press Conference

Cameron needs to continue to play strong and handle a lot of the duties. A lot of people like to run away from that Number 50 and that means the guys on the other side get a little bit more traffic, and Cameron's done an excellent job in holding up his end of the bargain and there will be a day when they're not running toward 97, I'm sure, and he's going to be a darn good football player.
