DL Chris Carter, Jr. (Official Thread)

Re: Last year, Carter described his commitment to Ohio State as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

Hey, he really wanted to go to Ohio State. As soon as he was offered a scholarship he accepted it. He didn't jerk the coaches around visiting other schools playing "the recruiting game", etc.

Just sayin' maybe if he gets cleared through the legal system, gets his act together, and shows actual remorse; and if this is first ever problem with the law just maybe he his worthy of being given a "second chance".

Hopefully the truth comes out & the right justice is served. Terrible situation to be in for both Chris & the possible victims. Innocent until proven guilty......keep your head up Chris and grow from this, no matter what the outcome.

" Carter's attorney says he expects Carter to sign with Ohio State and Carter not open to commenting on the arrest."

Well, if he's neither charged nor convicted I'll be happy to welcome him aboard, but I am curious as to what the hell the initial reports were about earlier today.

If they were accurate, what changed? If they were not, someone needs to be held responsible for reporting it.

Indeed.

Here's what the AP report said:

According to police, Carter admitted to them that he had fondled other girls under the pretext of measuring them.

That's a pretty strong statement, and there's not much room for interpretation there that leads to somebody not being charged for a crime. I mean, reporting or telling a reporter that somebody in custody has confessed is beyond your run-of-the-mill false accusation of sexual misconduct. If Carter ends up not being charged, then the police or a reporter screwed up bigtime at his expense.

Not to make light of the situation but in all seriousness Chris would be charged with what specific crime? Is he truly an authority figure? This isn't a teacher, priest, law enforcement officer, etc. duping these girls. Did he physically force any of the victims into doing what he's accused of? Did he do anything against the girl's wills? If they didn't say no or object or if they did say no and he stopped immediately is that a crime? What he's accused of is creepy and classless (and if true I hope OSU passes on him) but did he really break a law? Seriously?

Well, I'm not a lawyer and I am not staying at a Holiday Inn Express, but the legal technicality here might be that he is 18 (i.e. an adult) and the girls were all under 18 (i.e. minors).

Setting aside the pending developments with this young man's legal situation for a moment, I'm pretty sure molesting other people is illegal regardless of age or vocation. There shouldn't be any technicalities in play here other than, uh, evidence and truthful victims/witnesses and due process and all.

Crim law is next semester, but let us count the torts: assault, battery, false imprisonment, intrusion upon seclusion, and intentional/negligent infliction of emotional distress. Did I get them all? Ubet, BKB?

IMO, this arrest is a non factor to his recruitment, a little snag, but he'll be a Buckeye in due time. Hope he keeps his nose clean when he gets to campus. No room for this BS when he gets to campus though, he has to make better decisions.
