DL Chris Carter, Jr. (Official Thread)

Especially since he is 18 the girl are under 18, this is very serious and he could be in jail for a significant amount of time.

WAAAAAAY off topic, but the arbitrary age delineation we use in our legal system creates some big problems.

THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE, but if he was a HS junior who did this to a fellow HS student, then the recourse would be significantly different. And we know that HS kids do this type of thing...So, somehow it gets worse because of a calendar?

Again, not trying to defend him... I just work with young adults who've run into this "issue" (kid turns 18 and dad turns him into the cops), and I think it sucks.

Back to Chris, who I hope gets the support that he needs, whatever that looks like.

His behavior was allegedly deceptive, predatory and non-consensual. There's nothing arbitrary about those distinctions and that's most of where his current world of doodoo comes from.

By all accounts so far, this has little to do with the kind of statutory rape that you're talking about.

We're on the same page- there's no way that I would want this situation to happen to my or anyone's daughters.

I was commenting on the "since he's 18, this is a bigger deal" remark.

Again, I hope that he gets what he needs to mature through this.

I am not saying it is Ok for a 17, 16, 15, 14 or 13 year old to do the same thing, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

I would say it's gone. My memory is telling me that there's more or less a zero-tolerance policy. The only vaguely similar case that I can think of right now involved the Torrence kid. If memory serves, once that came to light, the offer was gone........ please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm guessing scholly gone, but more egg on Ohio State's face if he'd already signed, imo.
FCollins - disagree, almost entirely.

Timing of the news so close to LOI day gave coaches next to zero time for manouver. If allegations pan out true then only one party has egg on face, and it would not be tOSU.

(Aside - guess this, and the unrelated news about Walker, means OL is an even bigger focus than normal for 2012, 2013 classes).

Its true though were in a little trouble

I'm not sure I get this. How are "we" (Ohio State) in a little trouble? THe university has nothing to do with Chris Carter or his actions. I'm sure an appropriate decision will be made about the status of his offer.

In regards to Mr. Carter I hope he gets help as it's needed and that he does what he needs to do to get his life and mind in order. Some things are much more important than football.

I think Leon may be talking about future OLine depth when he's speaking about being in trouble...
