Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

For someone who seems to have such power on campus, Paterno sure is getting the teflon treatment so far for something that went on under his watch. Or are we suddenly supposed to believe in this one case that he didn't have any power to do anything because he brought what he knew to the AD? The AD that he surely approved to have the job? I'm sorry, but when you have the unprecedented power that Paterno has at PSU, don't be surprised when people wonder why the hell something like this was happening on his watch.

Here's the part that gets me...

Joe Paterno sat there....knowing what he knew....knowing what had happened up to that point.....

And watched with a hypocritical eye at the situation that happened in Columbus.

Ya know, I really wish you would stop this. This is not about NCAA bullshit. It's not about OSU vs. PSU. It's not about fanbases. It's about humanity and our obligations to our fellow citizens, especially children. My obligations to my fellow humans do not stop at the fucking state line.

Who said this was about NCAA or fanbases?!? I'm talking about the hypocracy of one guy looking down on another guy, knowing he was allowing something much more heinous and distainful on his campus.

You've made numerous posts contrasting this with other sports 'scandals' including OSU.

I will say this again, this is a serial child rape case that happens to have the back drop of a major University. Aside from that, one has nothing to do with the other. Wishing this on anyone or taking joy from this because of where it happened strikes me as quite disgusting. I would trade the pain that these children have suffered, and will continue to suffer at the hands of this monster, for 100 losses to PSU. Why? Because that is trivial, miniscule, and meaningless.

Penn State official: Graham Spanier is still the university president

Tom Poole, Penn State's vice president for administration, says no decision has been made on university President Graham Spanier, whose job is in jeopardy in light of a child sex-abuse scandal on campus.

Spanier has not been charged, but many question his handling of the allegations against former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, who was arrested in the assault of eight boys.

Spanier is still the president of the university, Poole said. PSU's board of trustees is meeting tonight as scheduled. Sources say the trustees will then demand or accept Spanier's resignation.

Disgusting all around. Every single person that had any kind of knowledge whether it true or not (turned out to be true) should be canned. How do you not investigate/bring attention to the authorities about something like this. It makes me sick.

So the vice president for administration that nobody has ever heard from is speaking on behalf of the lame-duck president of the university to assure us all that he is, in fact, firmly in charge and carrying out his duties, whatever those are ... wherever he is. Since he's in hiding. But still in charge.

oooooo k. carry on.

Under the Clery Act, colleges and universities have to disclose to the public (and prospective students and their families in particular) information on crimes that have occurred on campus. It's to prevent schools from glossing over violence and sexual crimes to protect enrollment. Violations and incur fines and/or result in the suspension of the insitution's ability to accept federal financial aid monies.

I suppose it would depend on the language, but it seems logical to me that if school officials either actively covered up crimes that occurred on campus or neglected to report them that they would be in jeopardy under the Clery Act as well.

It seems to me this sad story is going to have an effect far beyond what happens to Penn State's football program. If you were a parent, would you allow your son or daughter to attend a university where things like this were allowed to happen? The crimes were not against college students, but you just don't know what else is being covered up or brushed aside. I hope people in PA asking these questions to themselves and don't just continue to offer the unconditional support that we heard from Spanier and saw from the idiot students last night. I hope we hear some outrage on Saturday if and when Paterno, McQueary and their team take the field.
Thanks for providing more background on the Clery Act. Totally makes sense now.
