Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

The students appear to still worship the man...

Again, from what you guys have told me since I've been a member over here on BP....

The students grabbed a handrail in celebration for a win. My confidence in the common sense of the current student body at Pedophile State University wasn't very high at that point.

It's a home game, so I think he'd be okay. I want to see how many people actually show up at the game.

I think Paterno would be OK at a home game. McQueary is dead man walking anywhere right now, including Beaver Stadium.

If you're a PSU'er either MMcQ is a heel for being the insider that blew the whistle, a heel for not being concise enough as to the gravity of what he saw when speaking to his superiors that would lead his superiors to take a stronger course of action, or he's a heel for not directly intervening and rescuing the boy.

I don't think anyone but Jim Jones outside of the compound of State College can ever really understand the cult-like atmosphere that pervades that place.

One game will allow him to break the record for most major college football games for a head coach. He's tied with Amos Alonzo Stagg with 548 as of today.

I'm aware of it. I don't think that is a reason to keep him from coaching Saturday. There are better arguments to be made in that regard, given the circumstances.

On top of that, does anyone think he would be taking the field if they didn't still have a chance at the Big Ten CCG?

Not me.

Was the statement that he is retiring at the end of the season released by the university or by his stellar advisor/son?

I'm sure the entire statement was written by Tommy Boy err Scott Paterno. He probably held his dad's hand and signed it too.

I can understand them not bashing the guy, but I can't understand the unconditional support.

It's not the first time a segment of the student body/fan base unconditionally supported a beloved coach. There will always be a portion of the population who will overlook and/or defend anything, or simply blame someone else for their hero's actions (or inaction).

So, I'm on about page 16 of this Grand Jury report.

What a pathetic, desperate piece of shit.

Kids tried to distance themselves, but this predator would continue to stalk. Drove to and paid for a kids marijuana so that he could seem 'cool' and continue to stay in that kid's life?? For fuck's sake man.

And where was the wife when the kids stayed in this guy's basement and he'd just wander on down to lay and play with them?!

Just a whole group of sick individuals.

There's going to be, oh so, much more to this. It's like Institutional Raping. Like a whole system was set up for this guy to act on his sick desires and people played along in his company.

All of the first 8 victims mentioned in the grand jury presentment were involved in Second Mile, it's where he found his victims, and it's an organization he created under the auspices of helping 'at risk' kids.

Well, they got that part right. The problem lies in the failure to disclose that the greatest risk presented to these children was from the founder of the organization himself.

Must be nice for a pedophile to have the resources to create, and obtain funding and celebrity support, for his own private hunting grounds of children. That is, by the way, one of the prime techniques known to be employed by pedophiles: identify children who are already disadvantaged, who frequently are fatherless, who have moms who are already overwhelmed by the responsibilities of caring for a child alone, and become their mentor. These are already damaged kids...so much easier to intimidate and manipulate. Plus, the children are so much less likely to have anyone else to go to for help once they've been victimized.

Hell isn't good enough for these scum.

Well he wasn't even going to retire as of last night...

Isn't this the last year of his contract? It's not like it was going to be renewed or anything. So in essence, he was going to retire whether he wanted to or not. Which also raises the point that Paterno saying that he is going to retire at the end of the season translates to Paterno incurring no penalty whatsoever. What a man.
