Paterno's official statement:
So Paterno is telling them not to spend another moment thinking about him and let him retire. That's rich.

But the fact that they formed a committee to mull it over, and that this committee won't start until Friday, makes me think JoePa is in the clear until the end of the season.

He's basically begging the BoT to let him finish out.

yep

All time wins total is his only concern.

Scared old man afraid of death, pissing away a life time's work chasing immortality through his perceived legacy.

Wow.

I thought it would be after the last home game saturday.

Well, he said "Apparently Paterno is stepping down today."

It appears JoPa was wanting a chance to at least coach Saturdays home game. His statement seems to indicate that he wants the board to keep him on.

"At this moment, the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status."

No way, absolutely NO WAY they let him coach a road game. It would be brutal.

He is not going to change his mind 30 minutes after he said he is retiring at the end of the season. He might be forced out today..but he is not retiring or stepping down on his own today.
Well he wasn't even going to retire as of last night...
