Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

Zurp;2031256; said:
What bothers me is.. well, what happened to the kids bothers me first.
But what I was going to say is that it bothers me that this is still a sports story. Other than that this was happening in a sports facility, and by a sports person this has little to do with sports. This is a real-life news story. Sports stories should be about what happens on the field, or little drama stories about what will impact what happens on the field. Things like rape, molestings, murder - those should not be trivialized by people like ESPN wondering how this is going to affect recruiting. And comparing this to Jim Tressel's scandal (*cough* Bob Ryan *cough* Paul Finebaum) is further proof that some people aren't taking these crimes very seriously.

Agreed.

If someone caught a VP of mega corp X banging a 10 year old in the company shower, went and told the CFO who then told the CEO who ultimately did nothing about it the Monday morning perp walk out of that building for the main stream news cameras would look like a conga line.

My primary feelings on this continue to be a tremendous sadness for the victims. No bullshit this makes me want to cry when I think about it too long.

But now, as a parent and non pedo human being, my sadness is turning to absolute rage as details come to light regarding those who could have stopped this and chose not to.

Its getting almost impossible to attribute their inaction to anything other than a desire to protect their jobs and the reputation of Penn State football/Joe Paterno.

They let a known child molester continue to prey on little boys because of football. That's almost as sick as Sandusky himself.

To be fair, it is a hard document to read. I obviously do this for a living and only made it to Victim 3. I was too disgusted.

They need to clean house now. It cannot wait until the end of the season.

This all isn't doing well for Sandusky's book, "Touched".

Check out the reviews from Amazon.com:

"Disgraced OSU coaches Woody Hayes and Jim Tressel are grateful. Grateful the college football legend residing a few hours east of them will be more disgraced than either of them. Joe Pa turning a blind eye to child molestation easily trumps widespread illegal payouts or punching an opponent in the neck."

Paterno's official statement:

"STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Nov. 9, 2011 -- I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief. I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care.

I have the same goal today. That's why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can. This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.

My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this University."

If Penn State is truly allowing Joe Pa to coach through the end of the year, then they are piling bad decisions on top of bad decisions. Allowing ANYONE to continue to be affiliated with their university who was involved with this event (either through their actions, or LACK of actions) is a grave mistake. It is sending the message that the results of the 2011 football season are more important than holding people accountable for this horrific situation.

That said, Penn State should NOT cancel any games. The current players should have the right to finish what they started with a staff of respectable, decent coaches. Other than the boys/young men who are by far the number 1 vicitms in all of this, I do also feel for the current players and their families. They must be VERY ashamed of their football jerseys but have no way to change it. Talk about stuck between a rock and a hard place.

On another note, the pictures of Joe Pa student supporters disgust me. But, you know there must be a large number of undergrads who are smart enough to know that Joe Pa is a gutless turd. There is bound to be a big civil war brewing at State College between the undergrads who understand morality and the ones who just enjoy football wins at any cost.

Yeah, I think I posted the presentment yesterday myself. I got to the 'Back Cracking' part and had to stop. Everytime I look at that, I think of my own.

I had to stop reading as well. It's very tough to read.

Agreed. It needs to happen NOW, for the sake of the victims.

A seemingly well crafted press release, but I have issue with:

Ummm, I think your status for the rest of this season is very much an important matter to discuss, JoePa.

With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.

Didn't you have hindsight of prior allegations/incidents when McQueary came to you in '02, Joe? This sounds completely disingenuous.

Agreed 100%.

Quite frankly they shouldn't need an entire minute to realize that your tenure should end effective immediately. Not after a bowl game. Not after the end of the regular season. Not after the last home game. Immediately.

Well Joe, you've almost certainly got a decade's worth of 'children and their families' to grieve for because you thought more of yourself and your legacy you fucking cocksucker...

Doing nothing to change the access to boys and facilities....is "doing nothing" an "affirmative act", in that duties can be breached by inaction as well as action?

Thanks for the cite BK.

Yes, he had 4 years worth of hindsight at the minimum...

I agree. Disgusting doesn't even begin to cover it.

But working in PSU territory, with several PSU alums, I wanted to know the evidence given all of the bullshit that no doubt will be spewing here. It is indefensible, but some will try to minimize it without actually educating themselves in the first place. They won't run that shit past me, particularly given how funny they thought the problems in Columbus were not so long ago.

He's basically begging the BoT to let him finish out.
