Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

I would agree with you - if this were an isolated incident. This was a pattern of behavior that spanned more than a decade. PSU officers knew about the behavior and failed to do anything to stop it.

Yes, but the NCAA has no jurisdiction over it. It's a purely criminal issue and unrelated to the eligibility of any of the PSU athletes.

It's all about the subject of the matter. It's not like Paterno didn't report Sandusky for stealing Skittles or something. We're talking about deeply scarring sexual acts performed on children that will haunt them for their entire lives.

I don't have the rulebook memorized, but it seems to me that sodomy with a 10-year old boy in a shower should be against the rules for NCAA coaches. I don't know... maybe I'm wrong.

Or has the event passed the statutes of limitations, so the NCAA can't react? Also seems to me that the statutes of limitations on this type of event should be longer than 12 years... again, maybe I'm wrong...

Under your reasoning, Ohio State should've gotten sanctions when Irrizary assaulted another student, or when Santonio got busted for weed. Break a law, get NCAA sanctions.

If the NCAA starts sanctioning programs every time a player or coach gets in trouble with the law we are all going to have to find something else to do on saturday afternoons in the fall.

Just got this text from my friend

Question for u: If an older woman chasing a young man is a cougar does that make an older man chasing young boys a nittany lion?

That's just wrong. :slappy:

It's just a suspicion, but the PSU BoT might just preemptively do all the damage that the NCAA could inflict after a lengthy LOIC investigation. It seems that the President, Athletic administration and football staffs could almost certainly be gone, and who knows what they will self-impose as the details unfold...

...that being said, what exactly are the NCAA rules against not reporting an ass-raping committed by a former employee (emeritus) in a lockeroom? Hopefully more stringent than selling your son for $180k.

Honestly? Doubtful. How fucked up is that?

In all fairness, the NCAA probably never in a million years would have ever thought for a second that they would have to make provisions for something like this.

While it sounds like he was an adult eyewitness that did the bare minimum in reporting up the chain of command, if I were PSU's attorney I would advise caution when it comes to firing the guy that could be seen as the whistle blower in this mess.

The whistle blower was the 15 year old boy that came forward in 2009.

McQueary didn't do shit. You witness a rape at your workplace. The perp is a former employee and superior of yours, the victim is weak and helpless. What do you do?

a) stop the rape
b) attempt to summon other people to assist you in stopping the rape
c) call the police
d) drive home and call your dad

Sorry. McQueary is a piece of shit and can rot in hell.

Then the shoe fits. You're basically saying it's OK to ignore common sense and eye witness reports because the guy is your friend.
Here's what I have. Someone came to Joe Pa, saying they witnessed a molestation. The person told Joe Pa to tell his boss, Joe Pa told his boss, boss did nothing, Joe Pa thinks everything is alright and that the person was being a sinister liar. That's what I have.

I would be sick and tired of my best friend having horrific allegations leveled against him... particularly since this wasn't a one time thing.

I would want to clear his name. I would either make sure his good name was restored, or I would find out the awful details while trying to do so.

I can't even begin to imagine the incredibly bizarre workplace environment that must have existed at PSU after these occurred. How do you look Sandusky in the eye? How do you continue to place your trust in him to help your football team, knowing he did what he did?

I think this is likely right. I don't think this is an NCAA sanction issue. Maybe it should be, and I am not a by-law expert, but this isn't criminal activity (like hookers and blow) to get recruits to come to the school, so I don't think it falls under NCAA laws. But you know what? It won't matter anyway. It's not like PSU will be racking up championships in the near future.

Stifling Cult of Personality is the term that springs to mind where any and all decisions seemed to be taken with an eye towards The Legacy.
