Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

I haven't seen the normally highly visible Graham Spanier since he issued the ridiculous statement of "unconditional support" for the AD and VP on Saturday.

I believe this is because the BoT told Spanier that he's done at Penn State, and right now Spanier and his lawyer are negotiating any possible settlement/retirement package involved with his departure.

The BoT needs to replace the President and the AD in the next few weeks. That will allow them to have the new AD conduct a coaching search in December. I'm guessing that the BoT would closely monitor the coaching search and retain the power to approve the new coach recommended by the new AD/search committee.

He's probably running his azz off trying to keep Joe Pa from holding his own presser.

If you are Mike McQueary, and you saw Sandusky in the shower like he says, how the hell do you not stand on the rooftops shouting to the world what you've seen? How do you not have a visceral, gut reaction to the man every time you see him on campus, in the team facilities, in the weight room?

I cannot fathom how you could see this man walking around, near your players, and not beat the holy hell out of him. How do you stay silent?

The atmosphere inside the Penn State coaching ranks must have been absolutely bizarre these past nine years.

You can damn well believe that JoePa wins that battle. If he wanted to, he could rub out that entire university himself. He's been there longer than anybody, he's donated and made more money for them than anybody else.

Penn State IS Joe Pa.

Piss that dude off, and it's over for Penn State.
I absolutely assure you that his donations, generous and large though they may be, are but a minuscule proportion of State Penn's overall budget. 5% range, tops - if you allow all football program net revenue is solely attributable to JoePa.

JoePa gave almost fifty years of his life and kept PSU relevent in some way, shape or form in the national media. I think that's probably worth more to most folks than the $80 millie that the one alum gave.
In the end football is like the calling card at a major university. Consider the most extreme reaction - actually shuttering Beaver stadium - ending the football program in disgust (isn't going to happen, I know, but, hypothetically ..) They will do just fine without it if they shut down the whole athletic department. Disruptive to the school and their short-term image, yes, life-threatening to the institution, not a damned chance.
So, what was that about value again?

Because you are either a pussy or you believe protecting the State Penn football program (and your career in the process) is more important than anything else.

Are you fucking kidding me (from Jason McIntyre on Twitter):

Wow: Joe Paterno had a team meeting Monday, told the players HE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT JERRY SANDUSKY, everything came as a surprise to him ... asst coach McQueary was "distraught" and told his players he might be gone before Saturday's game." That's what Kim Jones of Yes (in Happy Valley) just said on WFAN radio

Maybe I heard it wrong, but on ESPN O.J. McDuffie just said there were rumors about this going around town when he was playing.

it has been a rumor for awhile, like the reasons Les had burned bridges with Michigan years ago. That is all it was until now though.

How these people slept at night for the past decade or so is beyond me.

When the first business I started went through a rough patch due to the dollar pretty much collapsing on me, there were nights that I literally couldn't sleep for more than an hour or two at a stretch because of my unease at pushing back payment to small suppliers in Europe who needed the money.

I can't fathom the moral blind spot that would allow these people a moment's peace knowing that their silence and inaction was most likely leading to additional young children being physically raped and emotionally tortured. That they seemingly were able to do so speaks to a lack of morality bordering on being a clinical sociopath.

Honestly, none of them should get a severance package. None of them should retain a pension, and all of them should get absolutely pounded in multiple civil actions.

Scott Paterno is turning into a gold mine.

Paterno's son denies reports coach will step down

Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has not been approached by university officials about stepping aside, nor does he have plans to do so, his son told reporters outside the family home this afternoon.

Scott Paterno's remarks came in sharp contrast to a report in The New York Times that said the university is formulating a plan for Paterno's exit.

The university's board of trustees is holding a meeting Friday to presumably to discuss its response to child sex abuse allegations against a former assistant football coach.

The younger Paterno, an attorney, said his father has not been asked to attend the meeting.

Scott Paterno said his father plans to coach Penn State against Nebraska on Saturday and into next season and beyond.

Just watched it.

He was a player from '88-'92, and he said there were rumors he got from a couple of friends in the area (not on the team) that there was talk around town about an investigation.

He wasn't talking about his playing days, but rather something much more recent than that.

Listen to the Kim Jones interview linked a page or so back. She stats outright that it was something that has been known for years in Happy Valley.

I'm sure Scott's legal acumen is every bit as impressive as Jay's play calling.
