Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

From the PennLive article;
"Joe Paterno is a different story. That doesn?t let him off the hook. He should have done more. A man who has spoken with such affection for 46 years about ?his kids? failed real kids when they needed him most.
"
"But this incident does not undo a lifetime of achievement."

Now, I'm really pissed! This is exactly what they did to Tressel. But it points to the insular nature of Penn State. Which directly led to this abuse going on for so long. Fuck'em! Burn the whole program down to the ground!

JoePa is apparently going to go out swinging...

Here's more to it...

Joe Paterno Was Ready To Talk About Jerry Sandusky, Scott Paterno Says

Penn St. Nittany Lions head coach Joe Paterno was prepared to talk about the Jerry Sandusky scandal during his Tuesday press conference, son Scott Paterno said.

The younger Paterno is a lawyer and helped craft the coach's weekend statement on Sandusky. The Associated Press reports the decision came from president Graham Spanier's office:
Paterno's son Scott tells The Associated Press on Tuesday that the decision was made by President Graham Spanier's office.

Scott Paterno says his father was disappointed and was prepared to take questions about the scandal as well as the upcoming game against Nebraska.
Penn State's strategy thus far has been to let Paterno remain the face of the program and the university. He's no angel in this story by any means, but Spanier, who pledged his "unconditional" support to Tim Curley and
Gary Schultz needs to stand by the man who's defined Penn State for decades. For him to cancel Paterno's chance to tell as much of his side of the story as the investigation allows -- thus casting the story as PATERNO DOESN'T WANT TO TALK -- only makes it worse.

If Spanier doesn't want to talk, Paterno should be allowed to talk for him. Should we presume Paterno would've revealed something Spanier personally didn't want revealed? Not sure what else we're supposed to believe here.

This is becoming beyond pathetic.

At some point you bring him in and say "you're fired."

His years of service and contributions to PSU are the stuff of legend, but just like any foundation of trust: it takes decades to build and seconds to destroy.

What are people going to think of when they hear the words Joe Paterno 10 years from now? They are going to think of the ugliest scandal to ever rear its head in college football.

I'll believe it when I see it, but if he does that...wow. Civil War in State College, between sides no one wants to win.

You can damn well believe that JoePa wins that battle. If he wanted to, he could rub out that entire university himself. He's been there longer than anybody, he's donated and made more money for them than anybody else.

Penn State IS Joe Pa.

Piss that dude off, and it's over for Penn State.

I'll grant you the first. The second and third, I don't see. The NYT says that he and his wife have given Penn State $4M. That's small potatoes for a school like Penn State. Hell, the alum who set up their hockey program just gave them $80M. Also, as much money as any football program takes in at a major AAU research university, it's very minor compared to research funding and grants and as a percentage of the university's total budget.
