Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

JoePa is apparently going to go out swinging...

Wow - an off-campus press conference. That's a big FU to Spanier, who most likely is also on his way out.

I'm guessing the Boiard of Trustees is quite relieved that JoePa doesn't have a contract beyond this season.

The less the attempt at quiet dignity on his way out the door and the more bitter, stubborn denial and resentment, the more tarnished his legacy as a coach, a leader, a man and a human being will be.

And he'll deserve every bit of the condemnation. Swing away, Joe.

In the unlikely event he still is in posession of all his faculties, I think he could turn an 'off campus' presser into a positive for him and his legacy.

I don't think he's capable of that in 2011 however. This will probably end up being must-see (and completely cringe-inducing) TV.

This is going to be reminiscent of Al Davis firing Lane Kiffin - in terms of senility - only worse.

I'll grant you the first. The second and third, I don't see. The NYT says that he and his wife have given Penn State $4M. That's small potatoes for a school like Penn State. Hell, the alum who set up their hockey program just gave them $80M. Also, as much money as any football program takes in at a major AAU research university, it's very minor compared to research funding and grants and as a percentage of the university's total budget.

JoePa gave almost fifty years of his life and kept PSU relevent in some way, shape or form in the national media. I think that's probably worth more to most folks than the $80 millie that the one alum gave.

You can damn well believe that JoePa wins that battle. If he wanted to, he could rub out that entire university himself. He's been there longer than anybody, he's donated and made more money for them than anybody else.

Penn State IS Joe Pa.

Piss that dude off, and it's over for Penn State.

That was true at one time, but those days ended long ago.

I wonder if Mike McQueary is staying in a hotel in Altoona under an assumed name while wearing a dark wig & fake mustache.

If not...he should really think about doing so.

On second thought making a run for the border at Niagra might be the wiser course of action.

Which is the problem.

Agreed, and that's what Kim Davis was talking about. The man can't even stand on the sidelines anymore at games. It's pathetic. Kinda like a punch drunken boxer that still has to fight (Or a 37 year old former all pro receiver with four baby mamas that want their funds that is desperate to get onto an NFL roster).

It's past time for him to go. And now, because they let him, PSU is about to pay the price...

In prunes, no less.

In football, sure. As a university, absolutely not. As I repeated during our own trial by fire this past year, the university is bigger than anyone or anything to do with its football program. We proved that in letting Woody go, and we proved that in letting JT go.

If Penn State is incapable of proving that in the case of JoePa, then they truly are a joke of an institution....and in this particular case, a very sick and tragic joke of an institution.

Secondhand report:

Joe's son Scott just told Fox News in Philly that his dad will be on the sidelines Saturday vs. Nebraska.

Horrible, horrible idea. I wouldn't go as far as saying there would be any physical violence, but I would imagine there would be plenty of boos.

Agree. Word for word.

There is an un-civil war going on and it will be very ugly and very bloody.
Now we see the full arrogance of Paterno. He built this thing and now feels it's being stolen from him. I bet he finishes out the season. But this could go on for months!

Come on, dude. This is the same university that has a handrail as a trophy?!?

Of COURSE they're a joke of an instutition.

Check this out. I just Google News searched for Joe Pa. The quote that came up?

I haven't seen the normally highly visible Graham Spanier since he issued the ridiculous statement of "unconditional support" for the AD and VP on Saturday.

I believe this is because the BoT told Spanier that he's done at Penn State, and right now Spanier and his lawyer are negotiating any possible settlement/retirement package involved with his departure.

The BoT needs to replace the President and the AD in the next few weeks. That will allow them to have the new AD conduct a coaching search in December. I'm guessing that the BoT would closely monitor the coaching search and retain the power to approve the new coach recommended by the new AD/search committee.
