Defensive Staff Next Year?

Notre Dame is set to finish the season with one loss a berth in a NY6, and a possible higher post season ranking than OSU. To those clamoring so hard for MarcusFreeman, why would he leave that for OSU right now?

I guess we could pay him an insane amount of money to come here plus the fact that he played here. But yea, we likely missed our chance this offseason which was a huge blunder because that was such a layup for Day. You had a great upcoming DC who played linebacker here. Frustrating.

It’s Notre Dame not UC or Liberty, he currently makes $1.6m, it’s not like they couldn’t match whatever we offer. And he already makes more than our current(on paper) DC. Freeman ain’t leaving folks, and contrary to what some think it’s the same position at a similar school with similar pay. I know it seems that OSU has had a lot more success on the field, but we’ve been embarrassed in just as many CFPs and NCs as they have. Outside of our fan base, the programs aren’t much different.

Brent Venebles gets paid 2.5 million. Is it smart to spend that much on Freeman? I don't know. I also don't know if ND would match that and Freeman is a Buckeye don't forget that.

No he did that with Fickels help.

One is going to make the playoffs as a HC and the other was fires 2 years ago by freaking Rutgers.
Everyone does everything with other people's help.

I didn't suggest they replace Ryan with him. Hafley isn't probable to be at BC in five years either.

I'd call Hafley first, but by this bizarre logic, neither are good hires.

Saban has destroyed cfb for two decades by hiring countless failed head coaches. Because he wasn't hiring head coaches.

Venebles’ salary is more because of his loyalty to Clemson more than anything else. He’s a massive outlier, because no other coordinator is staying at a school solely as a coordinator for 9yrs(and counting). And it’d be massively idiotic and desperate for the OSU admin to give $2+m to a guy who’s only been a P5 DC for 1yr. If OSU offer $2m to a DC that green, than he BETTER be a game changer in year 1. I mean he has NO room for error at that price. I don’t want to hear about giving him almost losing to Toledo, or almost losing to an unranked Free Shoes, or losing to a G5 team like UC(all happened this year).

Yes, I know he’s a Buckeye, I get that. But that only goes so far. Fans tend to get hard ons over former players coaching and think that all players want to eventually go to their alma maters. It doesn’t always happen, and it’s fine if it doesn’t. We’ve won NCs and B1G titles with coaches who never took a class as OSU, it’s alright.

Also, if he loses his job in Miami, would we give a call to Manny Diaz as a DC?
Another rehab project like a Lane Kiffin, get him for a few years and then groom someone like Barnes

He's been a DC though for a few years and did well this year overall. Not to mention his recruiting abilities....

No idea what the answer is but Freeman would come back if we offered him equal pay and title IMO.

The youth at LB might have hurt the Bucks as much as any other factor.

There should be a competent MAC DC (idk, Toledo seemed decent this year) we could bring on as a position coach. Then make him DC when Ash bolts and hope he sticks around a while, like Heacock.

I'm hoping for some loyalty.
