Defensive Staff Next Year?

If James Franklin turns in the exact same results at usc, they'll keep them for 10 to 20 years.

At Penn State there's an ambivalence about his performance.

At usc, you can recruit a five-star quarterback within the city limits many years. You have to battle zero to one and a half programs on the west coast for your talent. UCLA just refuses to field the confident football team or try. Oregon has thrown tons of money at it but in the end Penn State seems to be their ceiling as a program, and not the pre b1g version.

Pollsters would also love for a West Coast team to be relevant with that much history.

You can certainly have a lot of conversations about why it's been difficult for anybody to sustain success there, but a top-notch coach would absolutely dominate with such a layup when it comes to thin competition for talent and wins on the field amongst West Coast teams.
USC success seems to be tied to cheating - They're among the most penalized programs in NCAA history - Pete Carroll's departure timed to get of town before the law caught up with him.

That can be said about literally any team with CFB success! Just some have been too blatant and gotten caught. Every fan base that has seen national success knows of scandals that didn't make national headlines but was still shady. Cris Carter has said on multiple occasions the money he made at OSU, do you really think he was the only one on his team? And we could name countless other Buckeyes

Now is as good a time to bump this thread. And offer some fresh names instead of just constantly yelling about Marcus Freeman or bust!

DCs:
Scalley- Utah
Ash- Jax Jags(not sure how long he and Urban last in the NFL)
Bubba Ventrone is a former Safety and now Spec Teams Coord for Indy Colts.
Jeff Howard, DB coach of Browns
Ejiro Evero—former Safety currently the Secondary coach and pass game coordinator for LA Rams was at 49ers when Day was there
Chris Harris, DB coach for Wash Football Team
*info c/o of 11W posts

But at least these names give us some new names to see out there as possibilities as opposed to just thinking about the same name and then Raymond as a pipedream.

It was also mentioned to look at bringing back Kenny Anunike as the LB coach

? Did he get us to a top 10 defense or did I miss that?

Don't give me that we won a title because that was all Zeke and Cardale.
He cancelled Wisky by a thousand point margin. They don't sniff the CFP without that. Cardale winning 50-35 makes them identical to the B12 teams they overtook.
He outsmarted Lane.
He manhandled the supposedly advanced Oregon O.

He also developed a number of good safeties, some of them very lightly recruited. OSU has had 1 decent safety since Ash stopped developing them.

No he did that with Fickels help.

One is going to make the playoffs as a HC and the other was fires 2 years ago by freaking Rutgers.

Oh ok, so guys like Tyvis Powell, Vonn Bell, Joshua Perry, Darron Lee, Doran Grant, Michael Bennett, Raekwon McMillan, Eli Apple, etc had nothing to do with that title? :ohbrother:
This defense has more talent than that one but yeah otherwise giving up 35 isn't amazing.

The defense did their job that year. They weren't elite but they got out of the way of our offense.
