Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

If you have ever been in a similar situation and behaved differently, either intervening directly or hammering at the police until the perp was arrested, then you have a right to express this sort of vitriol.

Some of us may have had unwelcome opportunities to know what choice we make in situations that demand protection of the helpless, however much discomfort or actual danger those choices led to. Precious few of us, however, had the added luxury of making those choices from a position of great material wealth, power, influence, fame, and adulation. We boast no bronze statues or candlelight vigils, and the choices we made did not become the lead story on the evening news.

Some of us know what kind of choices we make. If you are one of the privileged class who have never had to choose, be grateful for the gift of a charmed life.

You know, I don't talk about the dead once they're gone, but the quote you put out there is irony....let's see...

Catholic Church.....priests molesting little boys...

Ped State....coach molesting little boys...

Pope....allows the molestation...

Joe Pa....allows the molestation...

Dang. Glad im a Baptist...

Since Baptists have never had devience with in their various sects with in their own clergy what do we do about Ohio States Catholic coaching staff?....Urban, Vrabes, Fick

Oh and Bo Pellini

Huge difference between "not showing sympathy" and repeatedly trumpeting how morally superior you are to a man who made a grievous error in judgment but also did much to help many people over his lifetime.

I don't think anyone has come out and trumpeted their particular moral superiority. It is possible to condemn an evil man without making it all about oneself. I do think that many here and throughout the country have harshly condemned him for his abject moral failure as a human being. They're not necessarily the same thing. That being said, anyone who put his public image and legacy above contacting the police over the systematic serial raping of young boys is morally inferior to 99% of populace.

At least try to be objective. I have yet to see the quote from McCreay where he told Joe: "Coach, you gotta stop this systematic serial raping of young boys."

Agreed. But message boards often thrive on HATE HATE HATE, so it might be difficult to stem this tide.

I do understand how someone in Paterno's position would have a difficult time believing what he was told and COULD be "paralyzed" by the process. That doesn't excuse anything, but it helps understand how people are human...and filled with inadequacies and mistakes.

I don't see him as paralyzed in the least. I see a man (who in 2002 was in full command of his senses and in total control of that university) taking the weekend to think (plan) things out and then going to two university administrators (both former players I believe) who weren't going to make a move without the old man's go ahead much less go against his wishes.

People ask "why didn't JoePa follow up with Schultz and Curley." I would answer that he didn't have to because they did exactly as instructed.

This is even giving Paterno the benefit of the doubt that he didn't know about Sandusky as early as 1998, which is highly plausible.
