DE/LB Thaddeus Gibson (official thread)

rivals.com$

1/11/06

From the Michigan site...........More of the same.........Gibson is not sure he will take a visit to PSU. Ohio State, Tennessee and Michigan are in the race at this point. In somewhat of a suprise and turnaround, Gibson states that Michigan is still on top. Contradicting previous updates.

Michigan site = Michigan spin.

The other good news is that IF Thads core GPA is acceptable, but his ACT scores are deficient that is OK.

Grades can have a bad Freshman year to drag them down and it makes if tough to improve a kids GPA.

The ACT is the easiest to move up with some tutoring on how to take standardised tests and review of standardised material. Many kids bump up their number by 3-5 points after the re-take.

Very true... I went up 5 points on my re-take. Most of that though was on the Math section. When I first took it, we couldn't use calculators.
Antonio Henton went to a tutor to help get his score up, and he did. I'm confident Thaddeus can too, tutor or no tutor. He's a bright kid who is trying to make up for some early laziness.

Then there is the whole thing where test scores that show a big jump can get flagged and investigated which is a process in and of itself.

Hope he makes it.

HH who I think was involved with Henton stated that as long as you can demonstrate why the score was increased (ie tutor/Sylvan) it isn't that big a deal.

Good to know.

IIRC this was the situation that cost us Larry Kinnard from the 2000 recruting class. He actually came in, practiced and everything but the NCAA flagged his teast score.

Something must have been rotten in Denmark because he didn't fight it or try and retake it or anything. He packed up and headed off to DIII Mt Union withing a couple of days.

That was the OL class that absolutely killed us for depth for the next 4-5 years. We missed out on Hall and Munoz, Got Stepo and Olivea then had "Biggie" Townsend and Kinnard(along with several other players) not pass admissions. God I don't miss those days.

I go to the same high school he attended. Talk about wasted potential....

Kinnard also had some family issues and wanted to be closer to home. I think it was something with his father.
