DE/LB Thaddeus Gibson (official thread)

In my opinion, OSU is the school to beat but if he is not accepted by admissions, Tennessee would be a school he could get into, I think its smart on his part to keep his options open.

I still believe if he can get past OSU admissions, he is a Buckeye.

Just FYI - Some noise on the Ozone that Thad has stated he would commit to tOSU if/when his grade are deemed in order (a poster named "the Hammer"). Don't know anything about his credibility, and I definately wouldn't put up any bananas, but it's better than noise in the other direction.

Well as many have said, if his grades are in order he would be a buckeye. So we just need him to get those grades.

Regardless of what is rumored to happen, the Gibson situation will not be resolved until his final grades are completed in June. There are a number of stories swirling concerning tOSU and an upcoming Gibson verbal, but even with that verbal commitment, this situation will not even be close to over.

So could this be another situation like Lennix this year?

Would he be willing to greyshirt if he didnt get in or would he go elsewhere?

It would still be nice to know who he chooses. That way IF he gets his grades in order we know where he's going.

Another poster over there said he spoke wiith T Gib after a basketball game and Thaddeus said he was headed to OSU.

The rumors of his academic improvement appear to have some veracity.

I guess what I don't understand is why a great HS football player who is having grade issues would play a second sport. I played sports in HS and college and it is very difficult to do so and maintain good grades.

This is a very valid point. Let's just hope that TG has the right kind of people in his corner to advise him on what's best for his future.

Good question...but I see it from a different angle. Say Gibson did not play basketball or run track. Do you really believe Thad, or any other HS kid is going to spend those gained hours in the library or studying? I'd rather see these kids in sports and getting valuable guidance than have them out in the streets finding ways to entertain themselves.

I went to school in Springfield and there were gang members on several of the sports teams. During the season they were often the best kids on the team (on the field and off). They understood that all it took was one gang related incident and they were gone. On a personal note- as an average high school kid- sports kept me out of so much mischief that it wasnt even funny. Add to that- that we were expected to attend study tables during the season, my grades were often better during those times.
