DE/LB Nathan Williams (official thread)

Nathan Williams is a bad man. With the way everyone on the defensive line is playing this year, it?s hard to single out one guy from Saturday?s performance, but it?s hard not to take notice when watching Nathan Williams out there. Thad Gibson is still the Buckeyes? best pure pass rusher, and a bad man in his own right, but Williams brings a different kind of attack. He is relentless. He will do whatever it takes to get to the quarterback, whether that means running past someone or just bullrushing right through them.

For the past year and a half it seems as though he plays only 5 or 10 plays a game yet stands out on half of them.

I would not be surprised if he challenges Gholston's single season sack record (14.5) when he finally gets a chance to play 70-80% of the defensive snaps.

Nathan is my favorite player on Defense. He kinda reminds me of a young Vrabel and is only going to get better and better. IMO, as good as Gibson is off the edge, I think Nathan might just be the most effective pass rusher off the edge in putting pressure on a QB and disrupting his play.

Having Gibson on one side and Williams on the other and Worthington and Cam in the middle has to strike fear into any OC. How in the hell do you decide to block or double team? You can't get everyone.

This d-line is making everyone look better. The secondary doesn't have to cover as long and the linebackers can run around and make plays.

The key to this D-line be as good as it has been all year is the depth. You cannot underestimate the beast like ability of Nathan Williams and Robert Rose of the edge or that of Johnny Simon, Todd Denlinger, Dexter Larimore (although out for the last game) and Garrett Goebel at tackle. All the starters have to do is tap their helmet and we just re-load on the line. The substitutions were key to the terrific D-line performance against Wisconsin, especially since they were on the field for forever.

he's not as complete a player as gibson is at this point in his career. but its very clear the sky is the limit for this kid. i really like the way he plays and if we don't have anyone leave early off this d.... good god i wouldn't want to be an oc and on our schedule next year.
