Agreed. But I think many OSU fans have PTSD from Coombs and Schiano before him as DCs. I feel like you, that OSU will be fine and adapt against scUM, Knowles doesn’t strike me as a coach who is stubborn and not willing to alter his defense to be successful against varied offenses.I’m not all that concerned
4-2-5 is the base formation, sure
If TTUN comes out in one of their 3-TE formations, we all know that you shouldn’t stay in the 4-2-5
WE know that
What are the chances that Jim Knowles knows that? Pretty good, I think
Perhaps your point is that we don’t have much practice in the heavier formations. That’s fair
But Knowles has said that he installs things weeks in advance of using them. He doesn’t believe in installing and using in the same week.
Based on that, I expect the silver bullets will have had a good amount of practice going heavy before Michigan week
Sure, it’s not game reps, but nothing Knowles does will force our opponents to give us practice vs 3 te looks. And the base formation doesn’t really come into it imo
And with the number of LBs that all have different skill sets on the OSU roster, I’m sure that the 4-2-5 can be a 4-3 when needed, and then revert back to the base in a moments notice. I also can see the DL using varying fronts as well to confuse JJ and attack from different angles
