DB Christian Bryant (Official Thread)

Does Bryant have a real shot at another season? He missed a significant portion of 2 seasons. If Gardner can get an extra year when he actually dressed and travelled with the team, I think CB should get one for being on crutches for almost half of his OSU career.
I would think that they might apply for a medical redshirt to that organization who supposedly makes the rules for college football but since Christian plays for Ohio State I am not sure if they would hold that against him:wink:

Probably never because I don't think they'll apply for one. He played in five games, that's 35% of the season. A medical redshirt is for athletes who appear in less than 30% of the teams games.

He also missed a ton of games early in his career due to injury. There are many examples of players getting an additional year even when playing in more than 30% of their games.

He missed 8 games this year and I think 6 his freshman year. That is a lot of games missed. I don't think granting a 5th year for someone that has missed 14 games due to injury is out of the question...and these were "real" injuries. He was on crutches, not in pads on the sideline ready to play and also traveling to road games with the team like Gardner. I still think it is only a 50/50 chance that he gets it.

Tyler Moeler was granted 6th year after his brain injury when he already sat out a redshirt year.

****edit****
I just went back and looked at his game log. It looks like he came back and played in the Sugar Bowl in 2010 after missing 5 games due to injury. That could be the nail in the coffin. If he had 2 season ending injuries, I could see him getting a year back. I doubt he gets it.

That would be big for the secondary next year - but could make the numbers game interesting.
I am far from a recruiting numbers guru, but I have watched this long enough to know there is always some (to us outsiders) unexpected attrition. If they have applied for a 6th year for Bryant, I am confident the powers that be have in mind a way to get Bryant a 6th year without sacrificing a top member of the 2014 class they want.

My bad. A medical redshirt, not 6th year.

Hmmmm. Only thing is, if he does happen to get the benefit of a redshirt, can he stay healthy next year? As far as him being on the field that would be big but just being in practice every day and on the sidelines regardless of health might be immeasurable. Vonn Bell could be the biggest beneficiary of him returning.

My fingers and toes are crossed.
