DB Christian Bryant (Official Thread)

Meyer said Christian Bryant's appeal for a medical redshirt was denied and he isn't sure if there is another appeal process. "Appeals haven't been really good to Ohio State recently," Meyer said. The reason for the denial was all about numbers.
Numbers? What numbers? Does the NCAA have some sort of self-imposed limit on the amount of medical redshirts it grants? Total bullshit. The decision should be made solely upon the injury and games missed.

It's sad to see an athlete's season end and have no recourse.
Will he get a shot in the pros? He's not a very big kid to play safety in the pros. But, he is a good character kid and the pros like character guys.

Second time this week the Big Ten office has decided to bite the hand that feeds it...
??? what does the B1G offices have to do with medical red shirts, pretty sure thats the NCAA's domain.

I'm not sure but I think the rules are pretty clear on Medical Red shirts. If you're over a certain % of games played in a season and you've already red shirted the process is pretty cut and dry. I hate it for Christian and wish him all the best in the world

We aren't any more special to the conference than any other team. Don't start acting like Texas to the Big 12.

MSU more than made the Big Ten Happy last night.

Right. When the BCS bowl checks start rolling in from Minnesota and Indiana getting at-large invites to those games, come and call me.

Regarding Bryant, though, the fact of the matter is that he missed over half of 2013 and over half of 2010, so grant the kid a redshirt--it's not like he'd be getting any additional playing time than a kid who plays four full seasons in four years. It's ridiculous that someone like Bryant, who suffered significant injuries, is denied a medical redshirt, whereas someone like Devin Gardner, who played 3 games one season and then stood (dressed to play, to my knowledge) on the sidelines for the remainder of the season, is granted one.

How much BCS bowl money did OSU bring in 2011 or 2012? According to you then, we've starved the league for the past 2 years....maybe then they're punishing OSU for that?

I agree with you on the Bryant front though.

Good counterpoint--cherry pick the last two years and ignore the fact that OSU has more BCS bowl appearances than any other school (not just in the Big Ten, but in all of college football).

And, by the way, you've missed my entire point--I never suggested that OSU should receive special treatment, but rather that it should be afforded the same treatment as other Big Ten member schools; hence, my comparison of the Bryant situation to the Gardner situation.
