Classic outcome of nepotism.I’m getting pretty sick of Meyer being content to sit back and watch his subordinates royally fuck shit up.
Not defending Grinch at all really, but there is such a thing as a practice player and a game player. Sometimes a guy won't show in practice but balls out in a game. And sometimes that has nothing to do with effort, it's just the way out can happen. Maybe that was the case with White and Grinch wasn't necessarily "wrong" for not starting him early in the season. But what would make him wrong is not starting him this week after that performance and the poor play back there from everyone else. It's nearly the end of the season and he's seen the body of work from everyone else back there in live games. It's only one game and maybe Brendon just played one game out of his mind, and isn't any better than what we've put out there. But considering the alternatives, it would be inexcusable not to start him and find out. Especially against MSU where we need a big, physical safety out there.
I guess as far as practices, scrimmages, and games go, the theory there would be that Brendon White is Bizarro Superman Hiley.Isn't that what they have scrimmages for?
I just can't jive up what I saw on the field, the concept of a competent coach and the fact that kid was riding the bench (and would still be if not for a fluke event).

- "It's been great to watch him grow as a player."
- "In practice, he has played much better."
- Meyer said the great players show their greatness in practice, and he's done that.
- "You have to just focus on getting better," Meyer said. "He's just focused on getting better each week in practice."
Exactly why Troy Smith was Justin freaking Zwicks back up at first. Not defending Grinch at all really, but there is such a thing as a practice player and a game player.
