Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

So who's next?

I'll guess Pahlsson or Methot.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them hold on to Nash now.. but I still think they'll trade him if they get what they've been asking for (whatever that might be). Wouldn't be surprised to see them move Umberger, either. They're stockpiling picks. Maybe they'll package them together to move up and get another top pick in the draft.. but at this point they just need to rebuild everything, so picks are nice to have.

If they move Nash, hopefully it's to the Rangers in exchange for Marc Staal.. he'd be another solid piece for the future and would really help solidify the defensive group. Not sure how realistic that is.

If they want to trade Nash, the Jackets should wait until the draft to trade him. They will get more value then. I just don't think now is the time, unless somebody gives them something that they just can't say no to.

So glad Carter is gone. It has been painful enough to watch this piece of shit team but to see his pouting mug out there night after night just pissed me off.

Fucking pussy.

Can't wait to see the reception he gets when he comes back to Nationwide, although the place will be 75% Kings fans so I guess it won't be that bad.

However (LA), it didn't get the biggest big-time player. Nash is still with the Columbus Blue Jackets. And there's one less team in the market for him. It's a market that looks like it's shaping into a three-horse race, even more reason to wait until the offseason if you're Columbus GM Scott Howson. But if Columbus is still looking to move Nash, these options remain the three to watch:

New York Rangers: Suddenly the Rangers emerge as the Nash favorites. Perhaps adding Johnson means Howson will come off his believed demands of one of New York's defensemen -- either Michael Del Zotto or Ryan McDonagh. But it's unlikely. If Carter can land an established young defenseman in Johnson along with a first-round pick, the asking price for Nash will be exponentially more. And that doesn't even get into the prospects New York will have to put in the deal to make it happen. One NHL executive I spoke with said he would include Chris Kreider in a deal for Nash but wouldn't feel great about it. "He's a real prospect. He's going to be good," he said, adding that the first time he saw him skate it was like "he shot out of a cannon."

San Jose Sharks: San Jose has lost five of six games, and GM Doug Wilson has consistently said he won't let the team's struggles influence his deadline decisions. But it has to be concerning for a franchise whose window to win is now. Joe Thornton knows Nash well, and the two would make an unbelievable duo, giving Nash a center to play with unlike any he's seen in his NHL career. "He's a great player," Thornton said of Nash when we chatted about him last weekend. "Everybody knows that. He's definitely elite and very dynamic. He's definitely a great player." With fewer high-end prospects to deal, the name rumored to be headed to Columbus is Joe Pavelski, which is a lot to give up for Nash, considering Pavelski has been one of San Jose's most consistent playoff producers.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Toronto has to be considered the wild card in this one and probably a bit of a long shot. If the Leafs' play of late has indicated anything, it's that Brian Burke's focus should be in goal rather than on adding another forward. But Nash would give Burke the size up front his team needs and the kind of size he would love to add before Monday's deadline. "He's a big man with some bite," is one way an NHL scout described Nash, exactly the kind of guy Burke fancies. It also would sap the Leafs of much if not all of the young talent Burke and his staff have done a good job accumulating over the past couple of years.

With the Carter trade (which was great by the way), I think you hold on to Nash now unless you can get a king's ransom.

With Vermette and Carter out the door, Brassard and Johannson will get the chance to prove themselves. I know they were getting frustrated by the rotation and scratches.

They introduced Johnson at the game last night. Loudest ovation of the night...lasted for almost a minute. You could see him after awhile start to open his eyes wide and his smile got big. I don't think he expected to be welcomed so much.

Of course the ovation had as much to do with saying goodbye to Carter as anything. But it shows just how knowledgeable Columbus fans are as well, welcoming in such a great talent as Johnson.

As for the game. Ugly. In my opinion Mason needs to just be cut. Today.

Goalie is the biggest thing we need to go for next. Mason is horrendous and Sanford is good, but is not the type of goalie that will take us deep into the playoffs. I really don't see how the front office is going to pull off getting a top tier goalie, but it needs to happen. With the addition of JJ, I think we are starting to get the defensive side together.

We got a lot of young talent on this team and in the AHL, so hopefully those guys can step up and make a true statement. And this year, it looks like the young guys want to step up and show off their talents. Just need a coach and front office to allow it.

As for Nash, and what Starbucks posted, i don't see us dealing him now. Of those three teams listed above, the only one i'd really be interested in is San Jose. Pavelski would be an amazing addition to this team, but I don't think a straight up Nash for Pavelski would work out. If we could also get a mid round draft pick or a solid development guy, then I would consider it.

I wouldn't say BIGGEST. But it's certainly up there. It'd be nice if they'd go after a goalie (even a journeyman goalie) that doesn't suck donkey balls in Free Agency.

Sanford is also standing tall today.

If Mason is in goal this is at least a 4-1 game going into the 3rd.

EDIT I'm also now pissed off at the prospect of trading Nash. I hope that he still wants to be in Columbus at this point after the way that McConnell, Howson and Priest have completely mishandled things. He's not a captain, but he is the kind of player that you can build around if you have half a brain.

I could be wrong here; however, I wouldn't blame the McConnells. I don't believe that they did anything wrong except (maybe) hire the wrong guy to run the team. I haven't heard anything about either McConnell actually making actual "hockey decisions". In addition, if it wasn't for John H. McConnell, Columbus would never have gotten the expansion NHL team in the first place.
