The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Ivan Provorov on Injured Reserve, club President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Don Waddell announced today. He is considered week-to-week due to a lower body injury suffered on September 26 at Detroit.



Just sayin': I'll go out on a limb here and say the lack of the games being on "free TV" (like they have been in the past) is going to significantly hurt their overall fan support.

had no idea the NHL reg season was now 84 games so i looked it up......

The National Hockey League expanded its regular season from 82 to 84 games starting in the 2026–27 season under a new collective bargaining agreement between the league and the players' association. [1, 2]

Why the NHL Changed to 84 Games
    • Balanced Divisional Matchups: Franchises wanted to fix an imbalanced schedule that forced some division rivals to play each other only three times a year. The two extra games ensure a uniform four matchups per season against every divisional opponent.
    • Enhanced Rivalries: Playing more head-to-head games against regional and conference foes helps build heated rivalries and fan interest.
    • Reduced Preseason: To accommodate the two extra regular-season games without adding extra physical toll, exhibition play was cut down to four games per team.
    • Calendar Spacing: Starting the regular season in late September creates a better overall flow and provides more breathing room between the Stanley Cup Final and the offseason draft and free agency.

Historical Context
This shift marks only the second time in league history that the NHL has played an 84-game schedule. Teams previously played 84 games during the 1992–93 and 1993–94 seasons before a lockout shortened the 1994–95 season and the league subsequently standardized an 82-game format starting in 1995–96.
