The Blue Jackets' Derick Brassard, right, skates away after scoring past goalie Curtis McElhinney.
Injuries sapped the Blue Jackets forwards of their moxie early this season, and it took the overhauled group of defensemen roughly 10 games to develop chemistry.
The last piece of the Blue Jackets to come together was goaltending, and it has been locked down and fortified since rookie Steve Mason was called up from the minor leagues last week.
The Blue Jackets' 3-1 win last night over the Calgary Flames was their third straight and sixth straight game with at least a point.

It wasn't nearly as exciting or dramatic as the third periods of recent Blue Jackets' games.
No furious three-goal rallies. No winners scored in the final minutes.
But what the Jackets did last night in the third period of a 3-1 win over the Calgary Flames in Nationwide Arena was every bit as impressive.

i think you will start to see a lot of running mason and snowing him now. teams will get physical with him. hes is a big kid. 6-4 215lbs. id expect the yotes to rough him up. the team will need to make teams pay the price for this, without taking dumb penalties. hitch and nash need to keep the orange armbands in the loop and walk a fine line of preaching pretecting the netminder vs whining.Steve Mason is off to a good start. Let's hope he plays like this all season. Still am hoping Leclaire can get back on the ice soon.

Rick Nash, right, has made up for his lack of goal production by contributing in other ways to the Blue Jackets' recent success.
In previous seasons, the spotlight would have been on Blue Jackets left winger Rick Nash right now. He would have been asked to explain his current nine-game streak without a goal and how the struggling Blue Jackets desperately needed him to shake the doldrums.
But yesterday, Nash walked out of Nationwide Arena with the bouncy gait of a player who has had a burden lifted.

Jackets notebook: Mason catches foes off guard
Being a left-handed goalie puts him in the minority in NHL

Steve Mason
Blue Jackets rookie goal-tender Steve Mason catches the puck with his right hand.
Shooters might tell you it's the wrong one.
Mason is a bit of a rarity in the NHL, a goalie who doesn't catch with his left hand. Although it might not seem like a big deal, it forces some shooters to make adjustments.
"When I was growing up, I don't recall playing against (right-gloved) goalies," center Michael Peca said. "You're just not used to seeing them and when you are in tight (on a goaltender), it is a little different."
