Raffi Torres celebrates Manny Malhotra's winning goal off a rebound with 1:09 left.
Raffi Torres stood at the penalty box door last night, waiting for his two-minute sentence for slashing to expire. The Blue Jackets winger had a good view of the mayhem on the ice, and he was poised to jump back into the action when the door sprung open.
"I was dying in there the entire two minutes," Torres said.
What followed was a 24-second snapshot that described a frantic evening in Nationwide Arena, in which the Blue Jackets led by two goals, trailed by two goals and ended up winning 5-4 over the Edmonton Oilers in front of a crowd of 11,228.

Steve Mason's first NHL game was a winning one. He made 22 saves, and the Blue Jackets rallied past the Oilers for a 5-4 victory.

Pierre Brassard could hear the noise emanating from the basement of the family's home in Hull, Quebec. It would go on for hours.
"It was 'tick, tick, tick' all the time," he said. "It would drive the people upstairs, in the rest of the house, absolutely nuts."
But Brassard can laugh now about how his son, Derick, would chase a golf ball across a concrete floor with a miniature, novelty hockey stick when he was a young boy.

Alexandre Picard sat in the middle of the Nassau Coliseum visitors' locker room Monday and spoke about his uncertain future.
Four years ago, the Blue Jackets forward was the No. 8 overall pick in the NHL draft. But as veteran teammates were getting healthy, Picard understood the prospect of being placed on waivers loomed.
