To me, record trumps head-to-head. Once the records are the same though, head-to-head seems like a pretty important and useful way to separate two teams. Improvement over the course of the season is pretty important too, but more so when the two teams haven't played each other. Head-to-head should trump trajectory, otherwise why bother playing the games? Besides, if Utah truly is trending downward and M*ch*g*n upward then the results over the remainder of the season should bear that out. There's no need for the polls to project that on the two teams. When the CFP committee does things like that they begin to fall back into some of the old traps of the old polls and BCS.
That's fine I don't really have a problem with it as long as they are near each other which bring me to my big problem with Stanford. Same record as Northwestern and lost to Northwestern. Stanford #11 and Northwestern #20.They are acting like the game never existed and worse they are acting like if the game did exist Staford would win easily. When we know the game happened they lost and looked atrocious.
Not only that but I think the committee would do some last minute maneuvering to avoid rematches in the semi's. I think they'd love for it to work out that it's Bama vs OSU in the finals.
That didn't stop the coaches poll from jumping Clemson over us despite their beating a then 3-6 Syracuse team by 10 points on the road while we beat a then 5-4 Illinois team by 25 points on the road. The media is in a slobber-fest with Dumbo Sneezy...Everyone talking about how the #4 could drop - currently ND but nobody talking about how Clemson could drop. Even if they run the table they could easily drop in my book assuming those beneath them take care of business. The ACC is the worst conference of the P5 and it isn't even close.
Because Notre Dame has to beat SOMONE so they can justify putting them in the #4 slot - see TV ratingsThat's fine I don't really have a problem with it as long as they are near each other which bring me to my big problem with Stanford. Syracuse is #65 in rushing defense, while Illinois is #50. Zeke ran for 181 yards. You'd figure we'd get credit for that...All because that Syracuse team played better than expected against the Almighty Fournette.
Does any of it matter? If you think we are the best team in college football, then it doesn't matter where we are seeded.Syracuse is #65 in rushing defense, while Illinois is #50. Zeke ran for 181 yards. You'd figure we'd get credit for that...
I actually prefer a bit of disrespect. Look at how many BCS #2 won vs the #1.Does any of it matter? If you think we are the best team in college football, then it doesn't matter where we are seeded.
And frankly, if we are NOT the best team in college football, it won't matter either.
What matters is that the initial convo trail was about whether or not Clemson would drop, not us. I pointed out that since Clemson actually jumped us in the coaches poll despite having a less impressive win (and they also remained #1 in the playoff rankings), chances are pretty good they won't drop.Does any of it matter? Until they play the Tar Heels. All Hell will break loose like it always does. What matters is that the initial convo trail was about whether or not Clemson would drop, not us.
