Apparently I got more guts than you, since I anticipate breaking out the snow shovel any day now.

BTW, Petersen would not have needed to break out any snow shovels in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, Closet Station or Gainesville--all great jobs in major conferences that he didn't have the sack to step up to.

I'll take the ocean over the guts/snow shovel combo. Call me crazy.

Usually we do this stuff in the weather thread.

Just so we're somewhat on topic. Here's a few more names in the Hawaii search: Mark Banker (Oregon State DC), Jerry Glanville (ex-everywhere), Ivan Jasper (Navy OC).

I'll defer to Mili, but I think Hawaii ain't doing [Mark May] until they start spending money on facilities and the program overall.

It's obvious that Mrs. Petersen wears the sack in that family.

Texas A&M was close Saturday morning to finalizing a contract with Houston's Kevin Sumlin, who the Aggies have chosen as their new coach, a school source has told ESPN's Joe Schad.
Sumlin, who had also been a candidate at UCLA and Arizona State for their coaching vacancies, has established Houston as a national contender in Conference USA. The Cougars went undefeated this season before losing the conference title game to Southern Miss.

Career suicide.

Yep. The UH system is very dependent on the state legislature for funding. When times are tough, like they are right now, UH takes a hit. McMackin was fired (sorry, I meant retired) as much for the attendance drop as he was for losing. The UH Athletic Department has not done a good job of exploring options outside of the box financially. Most of the wealthy here send their kids to private schools, and then to the mainland for college. They'll throw UH a bone here and there, but there needs to be a greater effort to establish something more consistent.

One name I forgot to list as a candidate was George Rush. Rush is the head coach of City College of San Francisco, who is a JC power. He brings something different to the table in terms of recruiting. He's coached a lot of local players, so he'll have some support.
