Cleveland Indians Thread of Malaise (2014 Season)

Watch out ladies and gents, team went 3-31 today at their own house and wasted ANOTHER fantastic start. Last 3 games Masty, Kulber, and McAllistar combined for a 0.46 ERA.... and yet we are 1-2 in those game thanks to horrible offense and poor bullpen pitching by Axford.

But hey let's just listen to Francona's nonchalant response to that about a bunch of talk about it's early and how he is optimistic still and all that crap.

Hey it's ok, we just pay Swisher 15 million a year to hit .197, Santana 3.7 mill a year to hit .150 (:shake:) and Asdrubal 10 mill a year to hit .211

So basically 28.7 million of our 84 million payroll (so over a 3rd of our payroll) is hitting below .215. Toss in how Bourn can only manage to play once every five weeks (yes I realize he has been hitting better lately but still) and his 13.5 salary and that becomes 42.2 million (so 50% of our payroll) going to little production at all for our team.

About time to hit that panic button and shake somethings up to try and salvage this season.

Fire MATTA! Err, I mean Francona.

Welcome Back Josh Tomlin!!

Great performance tonight and hopefully many more now that the Carrasco experiment has failed and is over.

Just enough hitting and barely enough defense, but a win is a win (which our starters haven't been fortunate enough to collect many of this year).

Peace

Hey the bumswon again

I love Brantley....but the fact that he is leading the team in HR and RBI at this point says a lot about how the supposed "big bats" (Santana and swisher) are performing.

They lost. Pretty sure apathy has a Benoit-strength stranglehold on this thread.
That's...just...wrong...

But what is there to say? All the baseball guys say that after 40 games you know what you are...and this is an 18-22/19-21 team. They also didn't exactly play murderer's row in the first 40 games, so they can't blame that on the schedule. This is a 70-75 win team, and they've looked like it all year.

They have gone 7-4 over their last 11 and about to make it 8-4 seeing as though we're up 15-2 in the 9th. The starting pitching has been very good and the offense is coming around. Morgan, Cabrera and Aviles have really helped of late to go along with Brantley, Murphy, and Gomes who have been decent all year. Hell, even Santana is showing a little life (still terrible though). I wouldn't be opposed to them trading Cabrera while the iron is hot and moving Aviles to short for the remainder of the season with how he's been playing for us.

Hopefully we can take the series tomorrow, and 2 out of 3 against the A's which will put us at 22-22 going in to the Detroit series at home. Unless injuries ravage Detroit we aren't taking the division so I would be hopeful for another wild card.
