Cleveland Indians Thread of Malaise (2014 Season)

I'm so fortunate to have grown up with such awesome Indians teams of the 90's and all the excitement bc god damn does it seem like this franchise will never be more than mediocre again. We got a small tease last year. We are like that fat nerdy virgin kid at prom, the hottest, coolest girl in school asked us if we want a dance as a joke, and after 5 seconds she laughed, dumped punch on our head, and went and F'd the starting QB in the janitor closet.

I guess while we are putting all of the Indians player's in perspective I do not understand why Swisher gets a pass for all the money that he is making. Just because he is a former Ohio State player does not mean that nobody should talk about how poorly he has performed not only this year but last year. He has been pretty decent defensively at first base but that is about it. I also do not understand why they keep Giambi around. I know that he is a leader in the clubhouse but this team needs more than leaders it needs guys who can hit, field, and run the bases. Offered Giambi a position in the Cleveland organization where he can be involved with the players.
I would also call up this guy and see what the hell he can do at the ML level. I mean it cannot hurt and maybe it would draw some fans.

I don't think anyone is giving Swisher a free pass...if anything it has gotten to where it is just assumed he is underperforming and won't live up ti his contract. The problem is there are colossal busts around him, so he only looks sorta bad by comparison.

See, if you grew up on the 70s/80s Indians... this team is awesome compared to those teams. But that ain't saying much.

There was a reason he came here. We were the only team willing to pay him like a good player. Same with Bourn too.

The problem with mid-market teams... when you screw up your big money contracts, you are screwed up as a team.

1987. Just keep repeating that over and over

All because of that 10 game win streak in 86? Or was it more games? Can't recall and not worth fact checking. But I just remember they won around 10+ games in a row and came home to flash crowds of like 50-60k when they were use to 10k. I was rooting so hard for Cory Snyder... he seemed like the real deal...

All I remember is the guy leading the Indians with wins in 1987 had 7 and the guy leading with saves had, I think, like 8

That was of course the year they were on the cover of SI after that close to the 1986 season, where they did win 10 in a row and also had a stretch where they took like 7 of 8, and closed the season winning 9 of their last 12. Then...BOOM!
