Cleveland Indians (2019 Thread of Indifference)

The Mejia trade for Hand and Cimber is looking dumber by the day. The relievers have both been terrible since the All-Star break. Meanwhile, Mejia is having a good second half at the plate. Tito's insistence on having a side-arm reliever is up there with regular sac bunts as the dumbest features of his leadership. I would much rather have a guy who throws 98 than a guy who throws in the 80s side-arm because he knew he couldn't get to the big leagues by throwing regularly.

Last 4 appearances for Hand: 3 and 2/3 innings, 7 runs on 11 hits. (Plus 3 walks)

Would love to see him out there every night - but for the Clippers.

I don't blame Hand. This is Tito's problem.
Right now Hand does not generate enough swing and miss to deserve being a closer for a good baseball team. Hitters are easily able to at least foul off his pitches and bide their time until they get one to drive.

I love Tito. I don’t think many managers could win at the rate he has here, but his loyalty to certain guys is infuriating at times. Sometimes it works out, more times is doesn’t. Both Hand and Cimber are garbage, and Mejia is coming on lately in SD. That’s frustrating.

Eh. Tough one to lose but everyone knew going in that this part of August was going to be difficult. These upcoming six games with the Royals and Tigers are going to be just what the doctor ordered.

Not gonna go waving any white flags.

Exactly! This team is currently running on fumes. They are human. They are doing what any of us does when we push ourselves too far: they're making physical and mental mistakes. It's not a lack of effort. It's not a lack of talent.

The Indians' schedule the past 3+ weeks has been about as difficult as any ML team has this, or any, season. With 1 day off, and that off day was on the road between the Yankers and Mutts.

That's not to say that they are going to sweep the Royals and instantly bounce fully back this weekend. They've been on the road and they all have wives, kids, other family and friends that will want to see them and such. I'm hoping they can go 2-1 against KC.

Brad Hand? Who else? There is NO other closer in Cleveland, Cbus or Akron right now. IF they can get Hand back to being a closer again they have a very good chance at getting to October baseball. If they don't, I hear that there's still football in Ohio.
