Cleveland Cavs (2016 NBA Champions)

Running a scummy predatory loan company and running off the greatest basketball player of all time...twice.

Quite the legacy, you arrogant asshole.
Eoah woah. Twice not sure about he gave Lebron everything that first go around. The same thing is plaguing Cleveland this time around. Lebron won't commit long term, they overpaid for everyone on the team currently because of first fact, making it impossible to attract any free agent other than over the hill folks who want a ring.

Dan is jerra by the lake, but "running" off Lebron is not something I'd say he's done

I have a feeling that this could be LeBron's last year. Firing Griffin may have been the nail in the coffin. Therefore, I'd think long and hard about going for it all one last year before pulling a 76ers (as sad as that may be). Get a Paul George and try to do your damndedess to sell off any asset other than future picks (those will be very high in a couple years) that can get better players back.

I guess that Wiggins for love trade actually did backfire. Although he's not that great either.

Well, there's only one thing left to do. Win the whole...fucking...thing. Because that will make it a lot harder to leave. If not, LBJ and PG could both leave for LA after 18.
The problem is that adding PG isn't enough to beat GS, assuming you give up Love. Therefore you'd have to do more to the roster, things that may be good for a year or two, but will hurt down the road. Might be enough to win it all next year if you play it right, but I think PG would see that it's a ticking time bomb and leaves for LA, and truthfully I could see LBJ leave as well. But I'd go for it all, say it was a great 4 years, and then hire Hinke to do The Process.

The Cavs winning a title with Love would say otherwise.
But your window for having a good team with at least Kyrie and Wiggins, even if LeBron leaves, would have been much more. So I agree that you probably don't win without love (not definitely, but probably not), but with Love not being the player I thought he'd be sacrificed the future. But hey, you never know if you'd even win with a future team without LBJ, but with Kyrie and Wiggins. We'll probably know in a few years if Wiggins plateaus or becomes an all-nba player.

Kevin Love was part of a Big Three that won three straight Eastern Conference championships and an NBA title.

Andrew Wiggins is nowhere near an All-NBA player. He isn't even the best player on a team that won 31 games last year.

The Wiggins-for-Love trade was great for the Cavaliers.

A Love-for-Butler trade might be even better for the Cavaliers.

We'll see....

The Cavs won a title with Love. It's senseless to debate whether or not they'd be better off with Wiggins now because LeBron wasn't planning for three years down the road. I think there's also next to no chance that the Cavs would've beaten Golden State with Wiggins instead of Love.

As far as our current situation, I'd rather have George than Butler, but the possibility of a one-year rental is terrifying. George is a better shooter so he'd slide into the starting lineup easier than Butler. Butler is more of a slasher that needs the ball to be successful. Either way, at this point, it may not matter. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Dave Griffin was a wizard for this team. He consistently took nothing and turned it into something. Dan Gilbert doesn't mind paying the tax, but he won't pay his general manager. By the time the Cavs have a new front office staff in place, George will likely be a member of the Lakers or Suns, and who knows where Butler will be.

If Gilbert thinks Kyrie is expendable, he truly has no idea what he's doing. Guards that can score like Irving are one in a million. Trading Love is one thing, as the game moved away from Kevin Love's skill set and he's never been as good for us as he was in Minnesota, but trading Kyrie is insane. If you're not worried about where this franchise is going, read this, it'll get you there:

The Cavs are in the finals all 3 years with Wiggins as well. I'll say they probably don't beat GS with Wiggins instead of Love, but I won't say that's a definite. I mean, until game 7 he was nonexistent. And even game 7 it wasn't that great, it just felt that way because of how awful he was otherwise. Who knows, maybe Wiggins defense outweighs Loves ability to keep the paint unclogged on offense, because that was basically all he was worth that series.

And I agree, Wiggins is not near all-NBA. He also just turned 22 and averaged over 23 points. So wouldn't be absurd that he would he an all-nba type player in a few years. But he also may never be. That's why I said you won't know for a few years.

Love for George would work. I see it difficult to swing love for Butler. The bulls can demand much more since he's locked in for 2, not 1, years.
